Question Opinions on springs

Hey guys, I have been doing some searching and ive found info, but now I kind of just want an opinion.

A little background. My car is a 2000 TL-P with 32k miles on it with stock tires and shocks. I also have the OEM bodykit on. I'm a student so I cant afford to mess around too much. Also, I live in michigan, so that means I have to deal with snow. I don't think its really feasible if I cant go to a lot of places if my car cant drive into parking lots and stuff if there is piles of snow. And I drive pretty carefully, so its not really an issue of changing how I drive (other than angles)

I've been thinkin about doing either the comptech springs or the H&R OE Springs. So I want to know if the OE's are even noticeable in person and if they are even worth it. Also, for people with comptechs that have to deal with really harsh winters, is it still doable with a comptech drop? Will I need new shocks w/ the comptechs if I have this many miles? Do the comptechs keep you from going up driveways and stuff at all?

Sorry for the long post. Thanks for the opinions.

But do you think that the OE's are enough to make someone turn their head and say, theres a lowered car, or is it just enough for someone to think, that doesnt look like all the rest of them...?

Oh, and I don't want to deal with putting a rear camber kit, so that why Im not considering the H&R...but I really like how that drop looks tho

I would go with the comptechs. You won't have a problem with driveways or anything. I don't and i have the H&R Sports.

The H&R OE's are not noticeable enough for my taste. But it does eliminate some of the gap.

But aren't the comptechs pretty much the same drop as the H&R Sports except a little lower in the rear? So if you don't recommend the h&r sports, doesnt that also mean that the comptechs would be too low for the winter also?

And thanks to everyone who replied!

H&R Sport Springs are lower than the comptechs, H&R OE springs are higher than the comptechs.

I took the Comptechs off and went back to stock b/c it was too low for chicago winters... the ride was super harsh in my opinion, though the performance was incredible. I forcasted that there would be a problem w/ tons of snow accumulating in my wheel well had I left the CT springs on.

Think about this carefully before making your decision.

What exactly happens with the snow in your wheel wells? Sorry for my ignorance, this is my first michigan winter with a car, so I dont really know much about whats going to happen. But I do have an ice scraper!

The snow will cake up in the wheel well and prevent your tires from "shaking" off the snow as they spin around in the wheel well. You'll also HEAR the snow a lot more in the wheel wells as you're driving .. you'll hear all the snow hitting the chincy plastic wheel well liner. As far as tracking through the snow, i don't think you'll be so bad off in terms of traction ... it'd just be annoying.

If you don't have a body kit then the snow performance difference between H&R and Comptech isn't going to be noticeable.

Getting through snow is much more a factor of having good snow tires than anything else. Unless of course you are tucked with a body kit then it might make a difference.

So other than hearing the snow in the wheel wells, it doesnt really do any damage or create any sort of dangerous situation driving right? So will having comptechs and the body kit affect driving in the snow? Roads in ann arbor are usually cleared pretty well unless its some small backroad or its snowing heavily during the day. So basically is the comptech drop so low (with a body kit) that it will hinder driving?

Thanks guys, this has been a lot of good info so far

Nah, I doubt it. Unless you've got to reach a remote cottage on dirt roads I wouldn't worry about it.

FWD cars can plough through a lot more than one would think EVEN IF the snow is above the fender.

Also, if I already have 32000 miles on the shocks, how long do you think they would last if I put in comptechs? Would I need to replace them say within a year or two? And the OE's probably would have minimal effect on the shocks rite? because they dont drop its that much...?

What is your goal with the springs?

Looks -> search archives and pic the ones that appeal to you most

Handling -> you're better off upgrading to Comptech sways

The shocks won't last too much longer w/ the CT springs... my ride got very harsh once the springs were installed.... if you're into handling .. agreed w/ whomever said that CT sways are the way to go w/o sacrificing the snow driving issues.

You may wanna just get adjustable shocks too .. like the Teins..

So if I got comptechs then I would definitely need new shocks soon (within a year) so with install twice, I might as well get the adjustable coilovers rite? Because good shocks would be around 500 dollars and springs 200 something, which is just slightly less than getting the teins. But I hear that coilovers are hard to maintain in the snow and salt of winter, and if you dont be careful and clean them that you will lose adjustability. So honestly, does anyone think the most cost effective choice is to go with the OE springs? A subtle drop with minimal fuss and muss? The shocks wont need replacing, won't have to deal with scraping of the kit and such.

And my goal for springs was to lower for the looks. Added performance is always good, but theres really no where to really drive for fun around here...unless anyone in michigan has any suggestions? hehe
