which one is better... DOHC or SOHC?

What is the diff between DOHC ans SOHC? What are the advantages in SOHC (TL has SOHC) and DOHC (Prelude has DOHC)?

which one is better in terms of durability and performance?

There's really no perfect answer to this. DOHC is more of a rev happy, high end as for the SOHC, it's more of a low end/mid range. If you put a DOHC in the TL, your redline will probably be 7500~ rpm and your torque will suffer. Not sure about durability, but performance wise; meaning racing, I would say DOHC.

I can see the higher revs with the DOHC but can't understand the low end/mid for SOHC? Why would SOHC have more low /mid end than DOHC?

Me too, I feel that it there's no correlation between DOHC/SOHC and power output. (Not personal ). It depends on how the mfr tune the engine. I guess DO is more efficient than SO, and is more flexible on tuning since you can fine tune the intake and exhuast cams seperately.

SOHC is designed for low end torque and fuel economy

DOHC is going for high end power and performance

but nowadays with all the technologies like VTEC and valve control...they are pretty even in performance wise but SOHC still has a the edge in fuel economy

well here is what i know so imma tell you how i think....the correlation is very simple the doch system is not naturally rev happy and it is actually an perfected "older" system not that its physically older but more matured mainly cus it is more popular since it is easier to adjust the setting in the car with out sacrificing too much....with the dohc the intake and the exhaust cams are seperate and with that you can adjust one with out effecting the other and when adjusting it you can advance the intake and retard the exhaust....something of that sort......but the reality is the sohc can do the same thing but to get the "cam spec" on the soch it must be tailored all into one cam can if you adjust the intake timing the exhaust timing will follor and instead of a tuned engine you just get a wrongly time engine....... the advantages of the SOHC is the fact is has less recepricating mass meaning fast revs and less parasitic drag......which is why most new engine are turning to the SOHC engine but it has yet to evolve to make it easy for aftermarket tuning.....but if you look closely more and more engine are turning to sohc like the new m3 i believe and the new mb engines.....

SOHC is much better in efficiency and cost...and it's performance is closing to the DOHC engines

The only DOHC V6 from Honda is the NSX, every other V6s are SOHC. And if your wondering if Honda has V8 or V10s, yes they do, but it's on CART and Formula 1 race cars.

i was just thinking could you imaging if honda applies their conservativeness about engine on their production cars in cart and formula 1 by using efficient 4 and 6 cylinders....hahahahha i4 vs v10......hahahaha
