i got the alpine 6.5 type S speakers in my front doors of my 2003 acura tl type S, have them for the back but didnt install them yet. i would take pictures but i have already put the speakers in and put the door panel back on. they seem to fit fine you just have to remove the white plastic speaker pod the factory ones come in. for $90.00 these speakers sound good. i am saving up for components for in the future when i want to go all out. my suggestion is get really high end ones up front and leave the back factory. you wont notice a diffrence really especially if you are running aftermarket subs.

Make sure whoever you buy from can tell you that the TL uses a 5 1/4 or 5 1/2 inch (not sure which)NOt the 6 inch they sell you, then requires modification and then...
The correct size is out there- just be aware!

total lush.... those alpines are nice though, 35-30000 hz, not bad, so you get a lil bass out of those too! couple questions though, how did your doors feel when you put it all back together? were they still nice and solid or do you get any rattles now? Hey, do you think you could fit some shallow mount 8 inch speakers in there?

I got Infinity Reference 6010 cs up front 90 watts RMS and 270 peaks power they sound amazing. In the back I got Infinity 6012i 60 RMS and 180 peak. I would show some picks but my G took my cam. I have a 4 channel MTX that can give me 85 watts into all 4 speakers. I think the aftermarket deck I have is only pushing about 22 RMS into all 4 speakers BUT DAMN THEY SOUND CLEAN, CRISP AND LOUD AS HELL CAN'T WAIT TO ADD MY AMP....

For you guys that mounted the speakers w/ larger magnets (e.g. Alpine Type X's and MB Premiums...) what kind of spacers did you use and did you have a hard time getting them to fit? I was thinking of replacing the Alpine Type S's that I currently have but I didn't wanna run into any depth issues!!!

The metal in the door had to be cut and then I made a 3/4 inch spacer.

use a jigsaw, because of the huge magnet the doors had to be cut.

I Have Infinity Kappa Perfect 5.1s in the front powered by an infinty 4 channel amp and the sound is unbelievable, by the way its alot easier to cut the metal in your door with some tin snips.

When switching out just the speakers do you have to run type of interface?? meaning Ive heard they are not just a swap in swap out type of deal?? ive heard you have to run something to make it run ok with the factory bose amps. its because the stock bose is running a crossover so you have to modifiy something to make it sound better?? is this correct?? im planning to swap it out soon as well. but i just want to make sure that i get everything. i use to work for a shop back home and when we use to do replacements for bose you have to literally rewire the whole system because its all amplified. i want to swap out to MBs or eclipse but not sure. i know i want to switch my head unit soon too. but have to wait on the funds. anyone know about the speakers though. that would help. thanks

If I can't sell 'em, I may mount my Boston Acoustic Z6's. I was content with the OEM setup until my front driver speaker just started tweaking out. If I do sell them, I may buy a set of new Boston Acoustic Pro's.

i just have them in the front doors right now, havent had tome for the rears, and with my set up i took most of the bass out of them cause i have 2 10" kickers in the trunk. they sound really good for the 80$ i spent. and the only problem i had was the center screw under the door arm rest was a little tricky to get back in, and the plastic cover by the mirror on both sides had the tab broke off, just superglue it on and its fine! these fit fine in the doors upfront and it comes with an adapter ring to mount to the door.

I just got (4) Sony XS-GT1625A 6.5" speakers for circuitcity.com and put those in there. They fit with no modification other than folding back the little white tabs on the white cover thing. I also got the Acura speaker wire harness for 100% plug n play with no splicing.

These speakers sound great and I got all four for under $100. They had a sale on them that night. Yeah, they aren't amped and they aren't super high end, but I love them and I very particular about music and how it sounds. I wanted to try the cheaper route first, but with my sub and alpine HU, I have no complaints!! I wanted to avoid another amp and my 18 watt RMS alpine HU pushes them just fine!

now if there is cutting required for the 6.5 Type Rs, how about the 5.25 Type Rs? do they just drop in..

Same as @cUr@-TL - Soundstream components up front (to be installed next week). 5 channel Soundstream amp in the back pushing everything, and a 10" Soundstream woofer.

Hey @cUr@-TL: what did you have to do to install the 6.5 - what size spacer (if any) did you use? Where did you mount the tweeters? I can hit you up privately if need be.

I have Focal Access 6.5 components front and rear. front tweeters are flush mounted in the top corner of the door and rears are flush mounted in the door right behind the speaker grille on the flat area. the drivers required custom made spacers and i had to cut the metal door to fit them in. it was a lot of work. i also have 1 12" infinity perfect sub. love the sound tho! i did 6" kickers in another TL and it only required slight modification to the stock basket. also rewired the stock sub on an independant amp. they sounded nice also, but on an aftermarket unit.

xxnonamexx:
if you just replace the door speakers with something like the kickers etc, you will be happy. just remember the stock HU over boosts the treble to compensate for no tweeters. you will have to turn the treb down from your normal listening level. if you are surviving with out good door speakers now, you can most likely deal with not having components. with that extra boost i think the stock HU with components are tinny sounding.

oh i also had to trim back the door cowls so it didnt hit the speaker. i custom set the focal grills on the speaker to make sure it can travel freely.

I put tweeters in each window post. Do you think it will still sound bad with kicker speakers to replace the stock?

nah you can tweak it. just get some kicker coaxials or something that of that nature and reuse your crossover network for ur tweeter if thats how you have it setup. I am just extra biased against the bose radio. im sure you can tweak it some how to your liking. now, if you down the road threw and alpine in there... you would love it.

I can't remember the type of speakers that I put in my doors only that they are Audiobahn. And then I have 2 Infinity Perfect 12"s in the trunk in a band-pass box. I love the way my car sounds too.

i dont remember exactly how thick the spacers are.. out of the top of my head i'd say like 3/4". part of the hole in the door (metal) had to be cut to make more room.. and some plastic needs to be trimmed off the door panel/speaker cover.

what 5-ch amp do you have? i had a huge chrome Tarantula before I also had a 12" Van Gogh subwoofer. everything sounded so great!

@cUr@-TL: I believe mine is the Tarantula - it sounds awesome so far.

I guess I'll just have to remove the door and measure everything out and then go make some spacers - I'm pretty handy so it shouldn't be a problem.

Thx Man!
