oil pump issue

just learned from service that my oil pump is leaking and need reseal. Currently it has not dripping but I am planning to have it take care of it pretty soon. My nxt timing belt is about 30K miles away but if i do oil pump and tbelt altogether after 10K-20K miles, would it worsen? How serious is the oil pump and how worsening would affect other parts? Thanks,

low oil pressure can destroy your engine
spraying or dripping of oil on to belts = ruining them

If you're not dripping yet, you're probably safe. I'm starting to see a few high-mileage honda v/6s leaking at the oil pump. Definitely do it with the timing belt. My daughter's started leaking about 5,000 miles after I did the t/belt and it's gonna have to get worse before I do it.

I will be doing my timing belt soon. Is this oil pump issue with the pump itself or with a gasket? Is it a good idea for me to change it during my tbelt change?

There is a gasket between the oil pump housing and the engine block, but the more I look at the parts blow up, I think it might be vtec screen, which is actually a gasket between the oil filter housing and the oil pump housing. I doubt the problem is the pump itself, and you're probably looking at adding an hour or so to the timing belt job to reseal the oil pump and related stuff. I may get my daughter's in for another look.

This has been an old post so far, I havent changed the pump yet, but I am going to do it dead soon. However question is would it affect the transmission issue any ways? Has anyone experienced tranny issue after oil pump and tbelt change? Might be completely unrelated just in case. Because last time, I did tranny oil change, tranny broke immediately and I paid hefty price for the replacement. Thanks,

isnt the engine oil pump on the front of the engine
while the trans attaches to the rear of engine? not related repairs or failures~

what fluid was put in the car that caused immediate failure?? dextron 3?

for noobs NEVER EVER put a drop of dextron3 atf in the TL!!!!!!!!!!!!
its that bad,,the 3x3 fluid change method was developed in case you ever accidentally add some,,have to remove all traces asap

Whatever the failure was I did not have time and knowledge to investigate what they put. It was taken to Acura McDavid of Austin TX who failed my tranny. They replaced it at some discount but the replacement one soon failed however luckily they covered the second failure under guarantee. So tranny is ok now, just need to do tbelt and oil pump replacement. I am taking to fremont ca acura dealer they also recommended tensioner replacement. Is it recommended? Thanks,

YES YES YES replace every single tbelt tensioner AND the roller/idler pullies
as well as all new belts
worth doing the ac belt tensioner now too,,mine went at 80k
then its all done right,,another 100kmiles of trouble free driving

no need for dealer - just a good acura/honda/import private owner shop- look in phone book for smaller ads

depending on budget or DIY skills, it really needs the egr system cleaned in the intake manifold, which can be done while thats off for access to adjust the valves
Its a few hours more labor but will pay you back in mpg and smoothness

egr passage cleaning needed every 75kmiles but not on any schedule, a good acura tech will know! If they dont, its not the shop for you

Engine Valves get loose and tight,,neither is optimal for air movement

spark plugs- NGK Iridium if not already done,,tech is already most of the way there with the manifold removal,,half an hour more for all plugs
dealer gets 25$ per plug,,same plug at parts store 8 bucks

COMBINED LABOR is an important thing to talk about
some service writers will enter each job as seperate,,not giving credit for overlapping labor..a ripoff to you
go and speak with owner/manager of some small shops
ask how many t belts on our gen they do--proof with customer files?

and the oil pump, is it a seal or a pump issue,,if you tell them the pump is bad you get a new pump,,]
they are in the business of removing money from your wallet and maxing out credit cards

How can I say all this you ask,,,guess who was in the biz for too many years...

note on trans, those who paid partial or full cost of replacement get a 3 year/ 30 or 36kmiles warranty, parts and labor on the trans
