Oil light and vtec oil pressure sender.

So I've had my oil light on for months now (and yes i check my oil all the time and its never even shown even a hint of burning any) and a few weeks ago I went to get my dummy sensor replaced, but the light still stayed on. Now my mechanic is telling me that I need to replaced the VTEC oil pressure sensor as well. But my VTEC works fine and im not so sure that it has any bearing on the dummy light in the dash. Anyone know for sure?

There is no such thing as a dummy light. When the light is on there is a problem Just because you have enough oil on the dipstick doesnt mean you have enough oil getting to where it needs to be. It may be a oil pressure problem with the oil pump. It may be the vtec solenoid, it may be faulty wiring. Either way i wouldnt have driven the car for a day with it on let alone 2 months.

Well i had a shop check my oil pressure right from the beginning. Knowing that, i felt that it was just the sensor or wiring problem so I was ok to drive.

Now back to my Q would the VTEC oil pressure sensor cause the light to go on or not?

Im not sure. If that were to be malfunctioning i dont think vtec would be working though. but you never know. it does work off of oil pressure

As smart and trusted as concered for your safety as your mechanic obviously is,

I personally would take it to a private owned Honda specialty shop in your area,
they are everywhere~ look in th ereal phone book
Have someone very familiar with the VTEC motors diagnose and repair the issue for you.

Lets hope its just a wire!

Thats what I thought too, I know when the mechanic disconnected the sensor and turned the car on it threw a CEL right away (Vtec Inoperable), so im guessing that the sensor is doing its job. Anyway when classes end Ill drop it off to get thorougly checked out. I'm trying to get the scratch together to 6spd swap this summer, so I figure with the motor out and harness removed it'll be much easier to fix the problem because its definately not the pressure sensor.

I was thinking, would it be possible to stick a resistor into the plug of oil pres. sensor to see if the dash light would go off? If so can anyone tell me what range is for it?

Thats what I was thinking, ideally i'd like to find a rear end totaled CL-S and take everything i need out of it. But i was hoping to keep my motor and then do an NA 3.5 build slowly while the other motor does it think. I mean I only have 75k on it right now, should last me at least another 75k, by then I hope to have a shiny 3.5 with like 300+ hp waiting for me to drop in.

Not to hijack my own thread but seeing as how CL-S on stick didnt have VSA, theres no way to keep it on the TL right? Not even if I go the way ksuchdeve did with an auto harness/ecu?

oil isnt getting somewhere, and yea i wouldnt even drive the car once that light stays on more than 1-2 secs at startup....siezing can occur, and like fattys sais, dont drive it and take it to a dealer, can be few things wrong..
