90 Bucks I think you need to shop around. It should be less than half that.

I am just about to change my oil... I figured i would give the pennzoil platinum a try, and then maybe move up to amsoil. I was just wondering though, for my '02 TL-S how much do i typically put for oil, i mean usually it is a quart per cylinder, but i just want to be sure i put in a good amount w/o necessarily having to rely on the dipstick check. ( i would check my manual, but my sales rep has to order me one)

- Thanks in advance

Five quarts, bro. Actually it's something like 4.75 quarts, but who's counting?

I just changed my oil and decided to go with Pennzoil Platinum with a K&N filter. I think that is a good combination. I was gonna seafoam the car, but i could really wait the extra 500 miles it suggests to drain it. I'll def. do it in the next 4-5k miles, right before my next oil change. I'll replace the spark plugs as well. I hope it will still be worth it considering that my just purchased vehicle is already giving me signs that a tranny change is coming up. =[ at least im under warranty

Good choice on products! Same as what I use after MUCH research
Stick with it, no reason to use Amsoil unless you drive in extreme ways and conditions.

Seafoam can be used anytime in the gas tank and the intake vac line.
Do it now and again just before oil change and the internals will be good and clean

For the oil passages/crankcase cleaning- 5 to 10 minutes at idle is good if you DIY oil change at home.
Otherwise put it in and drive to oil place.
500 miles with the cleaner in it is dangerous
Its solvent not lubricant!!!!

5-30 is fine for the gen2 cars

I am on the Penzoil Platinum and it seems fine,
due to change the K&N oil filter soon and grab an oil sample for lab testing to know for sure if its as good as the ads say

The newer cars are on 0-20 so it does better on smog test and epa mileage testing

the first number is the "cold" thickness the second is for when the oil is warm and the one we really care about
Lower 20w is less friction and MAY also be less able to deal with heat and friction-
in my opinion.. only no factual basis!

I am sticking with what Acura printed in my book until I see a service directive to the contrary! 5/30 and Fully Synthetic is my choice

I used Mobil 1 Synthetic Extended Performance and Mobil 1 filter.
I do a lot of short trips as well so I might change at about 5K miles and send in a sample of that to see if I can go longer.

Royal Purple and a Mobil 1 extended performance oil filter. Thinking about going to a K&N filter but not sure if it's more efficient than the Mobil. Anyone here know?

The K&N and Mobil filters are very very similar, with the K&N having a 1 inch nut to aid removal and a round rubber o ring intead of flat- thats my choice

sry but yea it is 5-30. you can use 10-30 if temps dont fall below a certain temp. but 5-30 is more fuel efficient. looks like i need to exchange my supply

For the summer you will be fine with 10-30 if thats what you have- just go 5/30 in the winter for best instant oil flow to the engine

I use Royal Purple 5-20w and JDM Honda HAMP Filter. Each 3000 miles. I love the royal purple mainly cause i live in a desert and its RETARDLY HOT!!!!!. but i used Castrol syntec and Mobil 1 before and i must say when i switched to royal purple it did make a slight difference in performance in vegas. felt like there is more pull and the oil lasted longer. but my gas milage stayed the same. i think its because im running 19s. plus its hot as crap here.

but my combo is Royal Purple and JDM OEM HONDA HAMP oil filter (GREEN ONE comes on JDM type Rs)

actually a 0-20 or 5-20 would be better (part of the reason honda switched to it in 02 to help improve overall ratings for the CAFE standards

Stop doing that! Or we will take your keys until you read all the post on this board!!!!

No additives to oil- these are small oil passageways to everything-like the valve lifters and the thing that makes the valves change into VTEC mode
keep them clean but do not make thickened oil!

There is a reason most of us change oil at home- we dont trust anyone to do it correctly and use the good oil and filter- the dealer uses what it gets for cheapest in bulk!
Do you think ford techs give a rats ,,, about your car, or is it just another pain from the used car dept they have to do oil changes forever on.

Hey,

I use mobil 1. I have No issues, and have a lot of life left in the oil after my mileage on it says it is ready to be changed

Daddy, give brother john a break!
Change your oil, bro!
lol
I use mobile1 5w20. Use 0w20 in the wife's 3g in the winter. Got a 5 qt jug for 24.96 at Wally world yesterday ($6/quart, $25/jug! Should've bought our their stock!).
Oh, and as for filters, FRAM Extra Guard (somethin' like that) has a 99% single pass, which is the best non-outrageously priced filter i've found. *looks at 01tl4tl and cringes in fear.* "Don't hurt me!"

I use only Motul since Mobile 1 is no longer a true synthetic. Mobile 1 is made from Group III stock, while Motul uses Group IV stock.

I just bought a 5 quart jug of Pennz Plat 5W30 at wally's for 19.97. I couldn't believe how friggin cheap it was. I've been using Amsoil and Royal Purple, but for the price and test results you cannot beat that price. Tomorrow it's off to Autozone for a M1EP filter as I will never put a Fram filter on my car and that's the best crap wally's has. I know some here don't think Fram's are that bad and they aren't, but M1, k&N, Purolator and Amsoil Ea filter's are far superior and last a lot longer.

limited- If you love your Mobil 1 you can still buy it- rebadged as Mobil High Mileage Fully Synthetic
BibleD- we are fellow persons of the sky- no worries!

Penz Plat is my new choice- was going to really run it long (4.5 k on it now) and have lab tested but at the W price- what the heck- buy some more now
K&N my preferred filter
Run Seafoam thru the engine oil before changing- your engine will thank you
