Which oil do you use???

Having just bought a 2002 TL-S. I am already in the process of trying to acquire as much information about maintaining my baby. Before I spend any money on modding the vehicle I wanna be sure I can get the maintenance portion down. I will definitely use synthetic oil for my changes, no question about it. But I wanted to know which brand do most other car enthusiasts use when replacing their oil and why they feel that is the best.

-Thanx in advance

I use mobil 1 because it readily available and is one of the best synthetic oils out there. I also only use honda oil filters. (NEVER USE FRAM OIL FILTERS)

Anyone know what type of oil the dealership uses, regular or synthetic?

I'm usually too busy with school and work and just drop it off at the dealer, but I got some free time this weekend and figured I could do it myself, i just don't want to put in synthetic and then if I ever bring it back to the dealer have them put regular back in.

Its ok to switch back and forth on the oil if it happens- wont hurt motor
Mobil 1 oil no longer same top quality formula it used to be

I love my K&N oil and air filters. The 1 inch nut on the K&N makes removal a snap

Started using Shell Platinum Full Synthetic with adaptive molecule technology
6 bucks per qt see their website for tech details- totally revised formula and special additives
It won the BEST New Technology/Product Award at SEMA show 2005- out of 1700 entries
Used by most Nascar teams and other endurance racers
Taking a trip to do a fuel economy test- its supposed to help a little

My 2 cents
need brakes?- I like racingbrake brand rotors and hawk pads- see MrHeelToe for deal
Register your car at www.acura.com ownership experience link- good things are there

They use regular oil more than likely, especially if the price is less than $35 or $40 for the oil change.

I use Mobil 1 at 10,000 mile intervals. I use a Wix filter - well made, considered a quality US made filter. I have no problem with the 10K intervals, figured if my Jetta diesel could go 10K with its soot loading diesel motor then a clean running Honda motor can sure go 10K. Been doing that for about 70,000 miles now. It actually reduces your cost over using Dino oil every 3K.

I have spoken with both a Honda and Acura dealer and it sounds like Honda is tied in with Mobil products. They both told me everything they get in for lubricants is a Mobil product. One can assume that all the Honda labeled stuff you buy from the dealer is rebadged Mobil. I'm sure the trans fluid has special Honda required additives, but is most likely a Mobil product based on all the other oils in the shop being Mobil.

I've been searching around the internet... And all my searches containing key words such as synthetic oil keep leading me to amsoil. They claim to be the best in synthetic oil department and offer different types of oils for all different types of engines. I am debating between putting in mobil, pennzoil, or amsoil. Either way, I'm sure all three are great and there might not be much difference in either of the 3 since they are all synthetic but i was curious to see what others might think.

M1 oil and filter always. I usually go 10K between changes. My parents own a mercedez, and they always go 10K between changes on M1 so I figure their engineers have figured out what's best for "cost effectiveness" and "proper maintenance". Otherwise, I've heard good things about Royal Purple and Amsoil.

I remember my friend telling me that the filter is more important than the oil cuz the filter is gonna get clogged faster and open up the bypass valve before the oil's additives break down and fail to lubricate as well. The only hit I've heard against Fram is that they use cardboard in parts of their filter. If you're really bored, read up about this guy that cut open filters for comparison:

amsoil full syn and amsoil Ea filters are the best out there for sure but are very expensive. amsoil is 7.25 a quart and the filters are about $16 a piece. I also use amsoil engine flush before each oil change. 15k change intervals and unsurpassed protection. Go to www.bitog.com and see for yourself. In every lab test done amsoil is always number one. If you haven't used give it a try my engine loves it.

You mobil1 users need to read up on the secret change made to their now cheaper formula

Thats why I went with the NEW Penzoil Platinum
SEMA show loved it, race teams use it

Mobil1 filters continue to be of equal high quality to the K&N- your choice

The OEM service intervals were set using the latest API rated conventional oil when the manual was written. Generally, the OEM service intervals should still be followed while using synthetic oil unless oil analysis is used to confirm the drain interval. Considering the type of driving that you do (1-2 mi trips), the oil will need to be changed quite often due to the contamination from short trips. Your engine never reaches its normal operating temperature for a prolonged period of time to burn off contaminants such as fuel or condensation.
