Yes, they tell you that to keep you coming in............I usally change mine (no synthetic) about every 4500.....and I could probably wait longer than that if I used Syn oil

dopeTL... unless you're doing a lot of city driving... changing it every 3k is unnecessary. The manual itself says if you're doing a lot of highway driving you can go up to 7500. I don't think you should go that long unless you're using synthetics, but 3k is a little much unless you're driving style requires it.....

I live in Florida, but I bought the car in Ohio. The dealer in Ohio said to change it every 7500k miles. I said i usually change it every 3000k! He said that is fine if you want 2 waste your money! I think some dealers look to screw people. like the one here in orlando Said every "3750k" quote. Who the hell comes up w/ that # besides being half of 7500k
I say you change it when ever you feel is right....check your oil...if it looks like something out of a tar pit...guess what??? Change it!
just my .02

Personally, I switched to syn (M1 5W-30) at my first change at about 4500 miles. However, I would also support those above who went synthetic at their second change. There has been alot of debate about this. Popular "opinion" says to wait until the second change to insure your car is fully broken in. Yet, there have been several folks that have provided "facts" that precision motors like ours should be ready for syn much earlier than 5K.
I'm not knocking or supporting either approach. I did mine as stated and have seen no oil consumption or ill effects although, to be honest, it's probably too early to tell. However, I can also see no ill effects in waiting until your second change just to be sure.
My $.02 and you know what that'll buy....
BTW. I do my own oil changes every 4500-5000 w/synthetic. My most erecent change was done by the dealer with M1 5W-30 as requested. They had no problems using the 5-30 vs. the recommended 5-20 at all.
