Exactly..400 was just to clean the system out...then they would have added another 1200 worth of stuff

I think that applies if it’s mechanical and not if it’s clogged. Not 100% sure since I’m not familiar with an Acura pump. Best way to find out is replace it with a known working one....even one from a junkyard.

Well if there is that stuff IN the pickup the pump will only be able to pull so much. Also if it did get past teh sock, it could be plugging up the lines or FPR.

I like the idea of a fuel pump from the salvage yard, a new sock, a new main fuel filter. Before hooking all that up, back flush the fuel line from the main fuel filter back to the fuel tank. The low pressure (at the dealer) is probably why the engine is running so poorly. Just not enough pressure at the injectors resulting in a super lean mixure. I'm thinking if the pressure regulator is clogged with the sediment, it would over pressurize the system.

I remember back when I was a youth, our car was running like yours and when I removed the fuel filter from the carb, it had a brownish crud. Scraped it out with a screwdriver and the car ran fine. This was when a fuel filter was sintered bronze, and the fuel pressure was 5 psi. I guess the moral is the more things change the more they stay the same; a blocked fuel filter will stop a 2003 state of the art Honda just as it will a 1966 carburated Chevrolet.

i would go new. and the only filter is in the tank. I dont think the regulator would be over pressurizing it if it were clogged.

No filter! One less thing to change in the wife's car;-)

The reason I figure the pressure regulator would clog and overpressurize is the bleed orfice and/or seat would bind up with the crud effectively blocking the return line.

hmm since the car was salvaged and was probably left in the junk yard for a while... something could have gone wrong with the fuel tank.

but i dunno how that could happen to a salvaged car unless they left the fuel door and cap open the whole time it was in the junk yard

As seattle dale mentioned, if the car was underwater in Katrina, it wouldn't matter if the fuel door was closed and cap on.

one thing no one mentioned...

you're worried about all of this money, but why don't you just report it to your insurance company. get a police report and submit it as a comprehensive claim under vandalism. your deductible should be cheaper than a collision claim and it shouldn't affect your rates at all, and everything can get repaired. if you already bought some parts, you can probably submit receipts for them too.

but how am I going to prove it's vandalism?

you don't have to prove anything, i don't think. call the cops, file a police report that an unknown substance was found in your gas tank that you discovered after your car started running like

Once you have the police report contact insurance and they should send someone out to assess the damage.

After about a month, the car is finally fixed. I replaced the fuel tank, fuel filter, fuel pump, injectors, air filter, spark plugs (twice lol) and the coil packs. I spent about 700-800 bucks, and the car is running like it's new. Thanks for all your help guys, I really appreciate it!
