The right tail pipe is lower than the left (not a big deal as far as I'm concerned).

The transmission makes a mild clunking noise when I shift from D to N to R. Had this problem with my Anthracite as well. The Acura service manger says this is normal though.

No creaks as yet, thank goodness. It would probably drive me nuts. Then again my car has barely any miles on it.

There was a debate elsewhere in this forum about how SN 1000's *MAY* possibly be more trouble prone than SN 5000's. Mine is a 1000 series and so far so good, probably too early to say though. Out of curiosity I wonder how many of you w/ problems have the 5000 series.

That SN 1000/5000 talk is a bunch of bologne regarding the TL-S -- granted, I may be out of my territory when it comes to the MDX, but my 1000 series is solid -- talk about totally over-speculating!

Anyways -- you can take the car back to the dealership -- they'll readjust the mufflers to line 'em up -- mine did, and it looks sharp.

I admit the SN debate did sound ridiculous the first time I heard it .....

Supposedly the SN 1000 are made earlier and has less quality than the SN 5000. Haven't checked my SN yet, but my car has problems. Getting it fixed this week.

It's pretty simple actually. The last digits of your VIN indicate the order in which your car was built. A car with a VIN ending in 6XXX was built 5000 cars later than a car with a VIN ending in 1XXX. In a perfect world it shouldn't make a difference. However, the first MDX's built seem to have had more and different problems than those produced later in the run. Based on what they learn during actual production, car companies routinely make adjustments to the assembly process. This may or may not apply to the TL and is certainly not a slam against TL's with lower VIN numbers.

Sorry to hear that you continue to badger people on this thread with your lame comments. Last time I checked the Maxima board, there was a lot of justified complaining about the poor paint jobs on 5th gen Maximas. Every build line has their own set of problems, huh?

As a three-time 5-speed Maxima SE owner ('91, '95, '98), I can safely say I know a little about the vehicle. I was heavily considering going with an '01 until I saw and drove the TL-S. Based on my own personal observations, I think that the TL-S is a step above the Maxima in several categories: quality, workmanship, features for the money, interior refinement, horsepower, torque, etc. Both cars are excellent rides that will provide their owners with great driving experiences. Never mind the "best engine" quotes in the press. There's a little more that goes into making a fine automobile than just an engine.

Can't you find some other Maxima owners to play with so you can each give each other the positive reinforcement you're obviously looking for by taunting members of the TL board?
