hey guys,

after much debate over a G35C, a used 01 CLK430, RX8, I decided to take a cheaper route for my second car, and the $350 lease, 0 down my dealer quoted me on a 03 TL-S can not be met by any of the cars I wanted.....so i am pretty sure this is it.

However, i am concerned about the tranny problem? Exactly how severe is it? Others have told me it is pretty common and pretty bad too.

People overexaggerate the M3 engine problem, and since I'm a bimmer man myself and hang out at their forums, that engine prob. is not as big as some see it to be. It was only a bad batch of engines made sometime in 01.

I hope the tranny problems is similar, in that it is exaggerated too and that i shouldn't let it sway my decision to buy this car.

The tranny issue is supposed to be fixed. So as long as your TL-S has a recent build date you should have no issues.

Atleast that's what I think.

Somewhere I saw here that as long as the build number was after 19xxx (?) that it should be fine.

I was after the 330i myself, but the $11k+ was not justified.

Now that the Germans are bashing the US I'm a bit glad. And to top it off, I was born in Germany. I guess I won't be visiting the relatives anytime soon.

As for the tranny problems go. While there is a lot of noise out there I only know of one guy in our group that has lost his. That's out of 12 or so I know of, and we all race and most have CAI and or headers.

Anyway, check and see if they offered you the 100k extended warranty. If so, then it's not as much as a risk.

BTW - other than looks and cornering goes, my record verses the 3 Series is 12 and 0.
