just a lux feature it just keep the engine noise down so it sound quieter from the outside and i think it keep the bay warm alot longer so u get a fast warm-up after its been sittin for a couple of hours so the heat is available sooner hope that helps and if im wrong plz someone correct me

The hood matting is also designed to melt and help put out an engine fire. For all practical purposes it's mostly sound insulation.

When I had my honda accord, the hood was not insulated and everywinter I would see a mist of smoke rising from my hood. Very annoying!

Isn't it a federal regulation that you can't remove factory installed appliances from an automobile? Daaah no, It is ok to operated this vehicle with out hood insulation..

I suppose it won't be detrimental to run without it, but in case of an engine fire (which is pretty rare, of course), the pins holding it up would melt first, and the mat would fall down. Much like the effect of throwing a blanket over a fire.

also a major reason to keep the inner lining on is it protects the hood from denting upward if a belt pops loose.

How often does that happen???

Anyway, it keeps the hood cooler to prevent steam from rising off of it in the rain, and it also keeps the engine quieter. You can safely take it off.
