New or Used??

I'm trying to decide whether to buy a 2002 TL, or save some bucks and get a slightly used one 1998, or newer. I don't know much about the pre-2002 cars. Any advice would be great. Of course the thought of the new car is great, how different is it from the older models?

One thing I would like to have is a Navigation system. When were the Navigation systems introduced? I know they had them in 2001, but what about 2000, 1999?? Is it the same system, but just a matter of updating the software, or is it completely different?

Sorry, for all the questions, but I'm really torn here.

Re: New or Used??

99 and up had the Navi option. 99 was hard disk based, 00/01/02 is CD ROM based.

the 99 was the first year with the new body style. 02 got the front fascia change.

If you can afford it get a 2002 Type S. Those things scream. 260hp oh yeah.

thanks for the info:

is that CD (not DVD) based on all?? If they're all CD, do you need different discs for different regions of the US??

If I found a '00 TL with a Nav system, are you saying it's pretty much the same car??

The TL's NAV system is DVD based as of the 2000 year models. The 1999 TL has a hard-drive based one, and also a four-gear transmission instead of five.

Aside from the extra HP for the 2002 TL-S, all 2002 TLs have features not found in the '99-01 models:

- memory seats
- auto-swiveling sideview mirror when in reverse (parking)
- in-dash 6-CD changer
- improvements in soundproofing

and probably some others.

The TL-S also has VSA, a stability assist system, which the "regular" TL does not have, as well as the bigger tires and sportier suspension.

Thanks genghis.

That's the type of info I needed. I just did a quick search for used TL's in my area, and it seems that they really hold their value. I'm seeing a lot of 2000 TL's for $26k and up. I can get a 2002 (premium) for $30k (sticker price).

It seems like the way to go is new, no??

genghis, do you have any pics of your interior? I would like to see how the aftermarket equipment looks in the dash.

thx.
