New Owner - Help!

I just purchased a used 2000 TL with 26,000 miles, virtually every available option, and an extended warranty (until 2007) for a very reasonable price. After reading some of the threads with so many complaints about the transmission, rotors, service problems, etc. I'm wondering if I made a huge mistake. I've always heard these vehicles are a joy to drive and exceptionally reliable although expensive to repair. I've just scheduled a 30,000 mile inspection/service for $295.00. Can someone out there address my concerns and fears and say something positive about the 2000 TL? Also, is it advisable to update the four year old navigation CD? Thanks in advance to anyone who responds.

Well congrats on the new car... its a great car, i dont think you make a huge mistake. acutally you should call it a very fine desicion, reparing any car is going to be expensive but as long as your under warranty you shouldnt worry.

Hey DRNICK, Welcome to the forum and congrats on your TL buy. Car has low
mileage , 26K on a 2000 model , with an EXT. WAR out to 07 , sounds like you made
a good buy. I wouldn't spend all that much time wondering about the tranny. % of cars
with this problem is small and with all the talk you read on this forum , it makes the
problem seem worse than what it is. Anyway Acura has put out a War. to 100K to take
care of this. As for the rotor problem , I had an 87' Olds a while back that I couldn't
keep rotors on. A lot of cars have this problem and I can't say Acura's is any worse.
I have 4 snow tires mounted on sport rims and change my own tires each season.
I bought a torque wrench to make sure the lug nuts are all tightened at the same
pressure ( 80 lbs. , I believe ) even pressure helps to prevent warping . I 'll know if
this makes any difference after a couple of years.
Anyway , I know you will love this car so enjoy it .

Like seahawk said, you shouldn't worry about the trans, rotors, or service issues. And even if you happen to have a problem (again, the odds are slim), the warranty will cover you and dealers are pretty good about honoring the warranty. I have a 00 TL too, and when I purchased my car about a year ago, it had the original navi disc. My area has since developed quite a bit so a new disc made a big difference for me. However, if you're in an area that hasn't changed much since you disc was made, then you may not benefit as much - unless you want more POI's and the new voice. It's really up to you and what you find important. Enjoy the car!
