New noise

So I was coming home from the girlfriend's house tonite and when I was coming to a stop sign, I heard something crackling. I ignored it and kept driving. I heard it again and tried to figure out where it was coming from and I think it was under the passenger side dash. Almost sounded like a pop corn popper but not as loud. Any ideas?

There is a SERVO switch on the Heater/AirConditioner unit under the dash. It's located above and to the left of where your passenger would rest their foot. I have the same problem. If you get under the dash on the passengers side of the car. Turn on the Air/Heater and adj. the temperature up and down, you'll see a switch that opens and closes a door. I beleive it adjusts for the temperature in the car. THAT's the noise source. Mine does the same thing on occation. Sounds like little balls knocking against each other. It's an annoying sound for sure but it's only happens on occation in my 99 TL. You can look up and order the switch online for about $90some dollars. If you do a search here you will find they fail on many of out cars.

Part #11. scroll to the bottom of this post and you'll find the diagram. If you check out part #11 you will probably discover that switch as the noise source. Follow my previous post to figure out if that's the noise source. It's easy to replace-Do it yourself.

Thanks for the heads up

I was reading the post, I have the same problem. I originally thought that all it needed was to lubricate the mix bar the next time I changed the cabin filter, but after seeing the thread, I will replace part #6. Thanks for the information.
