New Navi DVD out?
Was browsing Ebay and found this Navi DVD version 3.2 for sale. Checked Acura Owners Link - they still have version 2.05. SO, what is this version 3.2? Is it from MDX or new Accord? Will it work in TL?

When I spoke to Acura Navigation services about 2 weeks ago they said they were going to cancel that incremental release that was scheduled for Sept 2002. As it is now May 03 you can bet it’s not going to happen. They know in 4-5 months the huge major release promised for Sept 2003 will be here.
The real question I want to know is if went to an Acura Dealer and went to verify the newest 2003 TL DVD what would that version be? I can’t believe it would be 2.05 from 9/01.

I believe 2.061 is that incremental update they decided not to sell. I am wondering if the "major" update that's coming up in September will be the same as this 3.2.

Not to burst anyones bubble but I've been waiting for this "major update" for 2 years.
In short, there is a new NAVI out there. They are putting all their research into that one. Why bother supporting old technology?
I personally think any upcoming updates that contain more than just MAP data is vaporware.
I think at the end up the year I might update just for the map info.

Let me try to set the record straight regarding DVD release information for TL’s.
I apologize, but I am really into the TL DVD based Navi system and I am a Consumer Technology Analyst, so here is the long winded version:
I’m not saying this is the gospel, but I do think my info is reasonably accurate unless someone can prove other.
The very first DVD release for TL’s was version 1.09 released September, 1999.
The 1.09 release consisted of Database Version ADB0520 & Software Version 1.09
I’m uncertain if another incremental release happened between 1.09 and the infamous 2.05 release (don’t confuse this with the vaporware 2.06 release that never materialized—
but was supposed to last 9/02).
The very latest release you can order through the Acura DVD order line is Version 2.05b.
The 2.05b release consists of Database Version ADB0750 & Software Version 2.061
I’m still interested in hearing from any new 03 TL owners who can post their Navi DVD versions…read below.
Paresh claims to have version 2.061 in his 03 TL.
BUT, here is where some confusion could come into play. The physical DVD version release is stamped on the exterior front of your DVD disk. If you fire up your Navi system, go into system set up, and then information, you will notice a “Database Version” and a “Software Version”.
The software version is similar to the actual DVD version, but it is different in the 2.05b release. As mentioned above, the Software Version is 2.061 for the 2.05b release. So, if Paresh could tell us if that version he quoted is from the Software Version, or the actual exterior front of DVD disk it would clear at least that part up.
OK-I know I’m off the deep end on this crap, but does this make sense?

OK-it appears the latest DVD release even in a brand new 03 TL is in fact 2.05b. This really kind of sucks and I will tell you why. Consider peeps are spending 2K extra for a 2003 TL with Navi System, you would expect the media it utilizes to make it functional would be current and fairly accurate. The 2.05b release from 9/01 is going on 2 years old. I can tell you from my experience with 2.05b the data is far from being up to date.
Don’t get me wrong—I love my TL Navi System and use it a lot with great success (and I really appreciate its getting my sorry rear end to my destination). But the fact remains I expect the data to be as precise as possible, and updating the media once every two years is completely unacceptable.
Just as in computers it’s the software that makes it valuable, without it is useless. Same can said for the Navi System. Face it, in two years time there are a heck of a lot of changes to roads, business, etc.
Should we be fortunate enough actually see the “BIG” next Navi release this September (and I have no confidence we will but I remain hopeful) they will charge $180 plus shipping…the Acura DVD order line told me this last week.
IMHO, I would like to see Acura Corporate intervene and say hey, we fielded enough complaints about this then we care to admit. You are the company we contracted with to do update to the System and you dropped the ball. To ease the soreness, charge all customers who order it $100 end of story.
I fell better now—yeah, like that will ever happen!

When I got my '02 TL-S in May of 2001 it came with 2.03. Shortly thereafter (June 2001) they released 2.04, which was the same as 2.03 except it added the breadcrumb trailmarker feature for the MDX (2.04 acts exactly the same as 2.03 in a non-MDX). Then 3 months later (Sep 01) they released 2.05 which had a few city updates, but no changes to areas already mapped and no changes to the POI database.

Thanks pianoman41 for setting the record straight. So there was a 2.03 and a 2.04 and that is good to know. I kind of figured the POI and mapped info didn’t change that much. I first hand see the same errors or omissions in Version 1.09 that are still present in 2.05b.
Let us hope the “Big” release coming in September is truly a cumulative major overhaul that categorically includes everything updated!

DVD-9 can hold approximately 7.95 gigabytes of data, even though marketers like to use the 8.5GB value instead, but this is misleading and is calculated by using so-called "Japanese gigabytes" which means that gigabyte is calculated as 1,000 megabytes, but in real computer terminology, gigabyte is 1,024 megabytes.
DVD-9 DVD-Video discs are problematic for DVD-R owners because writable DVD discs can only hold the same amount of data that DVD-5 discs contain, due technical reasons.
However, I am not positive on this but I do recall reading some documentation that Acura for the current TL’s utilizes the more common DVD-5 format (and that would make sense as the current 2.05b release is almost 2 years old). I would think that the September “Big” release would in fact be the DVD-9 format with the boat load of fresh data that should/better be added.
Regarding boe_d software question about upgrading without buying the DVD (or software being tied to the DVD)— I think you are referring to what is called a “Firmware Update” I would think no without the DVD disk, but only Alpine could positively answer that one.
One last thing about the 2.05f release JeffNY mentioned; I would love if anyone could report in on new TL’s to confirm or verify this. I was at my dealer Wednesday for 30K service and I popped out the DVD on a CL from the showroom floor and it was 2.05b. Hmmm…I wonder what the new TSX Navi would be? I may have to go back to my dealer for curiosity (yeah my life is not to bring)!

It doesn't use the old technology like on the Current TL, but new stuff so the Versions wont even correspond..

I think we should all write or email or Acura to complain about the lack of DVD update.
When I bought the NAV, I was under the impression that the map will be updated (if nothe features).
The maps are totally out of date, at least in my area.
It is becoming more useless everyday.
They should probably out source the development and sales of the nav dvd if they aren't going to maintain it.
