Is the new NAV DVD on accord going to work for us?

It probably has more info and cooler features.
I figure it's a stripped down computer with a DVD drive....why not?
Does anyone know if it does?

You would probably have to most likely switch out the "brain" of the navi in the rear and possible the gyro sensor if they changed anything on that. Also if the new brain uses different wires, then the monitor would have to go also...but there shouldn't be really any problem as to why it's not possible since the brain handles all the computation and not the monitor.

I'm betting the Accord NAVI is the same Alpine unit all the Acura's currently use. If its got some new features hopefully the next DVD rev will upgrade ours.

I thought that too...but according to Hellawhat on the CL board, the CD just houses the maps...it's still up to the "brain" to do the computing and for the 2d/3d thing, that would require the brain to do that...so the revision would probably not do anything more for us other than give us more mapped areas.

I was under the impression you could flash the "brain" with data on the dvd. The more I use the navi, the more I wish it more/better features:

1- Dual route. ie. an active route and a standby route
2- Ability to manually plug in a route of your choice instead it figuring it out then doing the avoid road thing.
3- Ability to have a starting location other than current position.
4- Not having it dump the route when you ask it something.
5- Quicker CPU. Of course that's a hardware issue.

Those are just off the top of my cranium.

I'm not sure if Honda added RAM as opposed to ROM. It would be neat if we can flash the brain. I with you also on the 5 improvements that Honda can make to our cars.

I'm sure we would need a whole new unit. The screen looks to be a higher resolution (not sure, but thats how it looks), and our units take 5 mins to figure out a trip sometimes, I'm sure they dont have enough power to render 3D maps. Also the database format might have been changed so new discs could very well not work in the TL/CL dvd nav.

So anybody got any friends buying and Accord w/Navi? I'd love to see what happens when trying to run the Accord DVD on the TL.

I wonder if it will even be a direct swap. Who knows if the connectors will even match ours.
