New 2003 TL Type-S

Been trolling these boards for a while as I considered purchasing my next car.

Last Monday, I turned in my 2001 Audi A4, and picked up my new 2003 Acura 3.2 Tl Type-S. Brand new, including destination: $27,500 + tax (no navi). Black Interior, Silver Exterior. Glad to be part of the family.

First impressions after 150 miles of seat time: I am going to miss the handling of the A4 Quattro, especially when it snows here in Michigan. Acceleration will be much better with the Acura (although I am still breaking this one in so have not fully tested it). The Acura rides much smoother with way better seats.

Interior: the Bose stereo doesn't sound quite right on the Acura. Need to turn it up really loud to sound good. Almost feels hollow. Any suggestions? The controls all seem to be well placed.

Anyhow, I am excited. I am not into modding too much, but will be checking in from time to time. Safe driving.

Glad to see you make the change, welcome to the family. At least you have an objective opinion about the Audi, you are right the Quattro is a very unique system but overall I think you will like the TLS better once you know what it can do it will surprise you.

Welcome Coop to the TL family. You may have heard the old
saying, ' No highs , No lows , must be Bose. '

I managed to have my Audi for 39 months. It was leased so i didn't want to put money into it that I would see go to someone else with no return. Now that I own (or will in 59 short months), I may look into it.

I already have the itch to put a light tint on the windows...and the stock fog light color is calling my MasterCard too. In time...

The Bose system in there is pretty much status quo for any Bose product out there, home or mobile. Bose is well known for taking the cheapest divers they can find and overdriving them with an equalizer (+10 at some points) before it gets to your preamp in the dash and calling it good sound. Sorry Bose, I know better. One thing you can try is getting different 6 1/2" drivers that are mounted in the doors. Pending on what you get can make a huge difference. For instance the sesitivity of the Bose drivers are around 83db/2.83v AC@1 meter. That's pretty bad. Considering you can get a set of Polk drivers with a rating of 93-ish/2.83v AC@1 meter for about $250 (MSRP) for 4. The Polks would only require 1 watt to play at 93db versus the Bose's that would require 10.2 watts to play at 93db. The Bose speakers are terrible!! I would just keep the stock sub-woofer before you swap that out.

Some may say that the speaker's timbre is the main factor. I'll give them the benefit of their opinion but I would venture to say that the Polk's would probably blow the Bose's away there too.

Here's the one's I'm looking at: http://www.polkaudio.com/car/product.php?name=ex365

It's also a mod you can't see from prying and interested eyes of the outside.

Ooopps! My bad, the polks are rated at 92db not 93db. That's still a hell of a lot better that 83db.

Welcome aboard...
I'd spend $300 on the CT swaybars which will drastically change the handling of the car. It still won't outcorner the quatto but will be much improved and unnoticable to the eye...
