Thumbs up New 2003 TL Owner

I just purchased a 2003 TL Type S yesterday and have been doing reading on the ATF fluid recommendations.

I have always been a Nissan guy and never used OEM fluids. Way better results with aftermarket fluids.

No experience with the Hondas until now and get curious if anyone has experience with Mobil Super Multi Vehicle ATF ??

http://www.mobil.ca/Canada-English-L...hicle-atf.aspx

Specs on the bottle say it is compatible with Z1ATF

I run Redline shock proof which is not recommended for my Z32. Pushing over 600HP and it performs extremly well.

I have searched and read that some are using Amsoil and Redline with these transmissions but for the price does it actually perform better than the new Honda Fluid ??

Any thoughts on the Mobil Super would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

the new honda fuild dw-1 has performed a million times better than the old z-1 honda stuff. faster shifts and better cold temperature performance. Iv been super satisfied with my tranny filled with DW-1 Honda ATF.

steer clear of generic atf that claims to be compatible with z-1 fluid - almost always end with disaster after a few k miles. Not many people have experience with other brands of ATF because the few that have needed a new tranny sortly after. plus id stay clear of the mobil super line - its their lowest quality line of lubricants. Redline and amsoil will work sorta but once you put it in there is no going back to honda fluid. some people have experimented with mixing type-f Redline fluid and had some positive results.

When it comes to fluid in these cars - ATF and power-steering have to be Honda fluid.
10 bucks a quart for honda atf is much cheaper than a new tranny - just putting it out there.

But first we need to know how your current tranny is performing. how many miles? If it is slipping - its on its way out and fluid changes are temporary fixes.

If the tranny is not slipping - id say drain and fill it 3 times (over a few hundred miles) with ATF DW-1 from honda.

No flushing machines! drain and fill only.

Don't use any other kind of fluid. I used castrol on mine and after 3 weeks the tranny began shifting hard once it got hot, I took the fluid out and put dw-1 and now it feels like a new tranny.

Thanks alot for the replies, I will definately use the DW-1 as stated.

The car has 235k kms, however tranny was replaced @ 110k kms.

No slipping but 2 - 3 shift is lazy and slow. I guess I will do the 3 x drain and fill.

What does the dealer typically charge ?? Will likely do it myself but just out of curiosity would like to know.

Z32 Pics to come soon !!!

Cheers

On another note I am looking into plugs.

Iridium or platinum ??

Looking @ the ZFR6FIX-11 stock gap for the TypeS sound sufficient ??

Cheers

Platinum is the Standard Plug but you can Use IRIDIUM Instead for More Longevity.... That is the Correct Part No. For the Type-S Plug...
