Need help choosing between these 3 Mods

Hi,

I have done a lot of reading on this site forthe past few weeks. I am try to decide what mods I want to do first.

I have narrowed it done to 3.
1.) Short Ram (7-10Hp)
2.) CAI(10-15hp)
3.) K&N or Comptech Drop in Filter(4-5hp)

Do these hp increases look about right.

How much will each increase my HP by, 0-60?

I see the drawbacks of the Short Ram as using warm air instead of the cool air for the CAI. But, it should be much better then the stcok air unit. Are there any issues with a short ram? Can it damage the car?

The CAI looks like the most HP improvement for the money but I really do not have the time to take the bumber off (nor do I really want to). I am a little nervous about water (could get the by pass vavle but then it reduces hp gain).

The easiest upgarde is the K&N filter or the comptech dop in filters. Which one is better? Are the hp increase the same for them?

Thanks for the help.

Mark

I'm curious as well to see what the actual hp gains are from these mods...sure they are advertised to give those gains, but has anyone actually put it to a dyno test?

My car is leased also, so I do not want to have to go through a lot of work to install then uninstall the equiptment.

Looks like the easiest are the Short Ram and the K&N Filter.

jkc2121, how did you install without taking off the bumber?

Thanks,

Mark

If you're going to get an intake on your car, mine as well get a cold-air. I put my intake on by myself. It isn't too hard. There's even a step-by-step tutorial located in the FAQ on this site.

Hmmm....I think those numbers are waay off. The intake shouldn't give you much of a gain. But I like the CAI..just cause i'm biased...i love the sound and looks.

OK...since you are afraid to take the bumper off why not do this mod in 2 stages. Get the short ram for now, and later if you decide, you can add an airbox to it once you are more comfortable holding your own wrench. Persoanlly if I were in your shoes (since you are leasing) I'd go the simple route and short ram it.

I have no problem taking off the bumber (shouldn't take more then 15-20 minutes) I just do not feel like doing it. I was hoping that the short ram is as effective as the CAI but does not sound like it.

Which is the best CAI to get? What about real world performance increase?

Thanks

I'd go with the Injen...why? Simply put, it's cheaper.

On what? I will not be replacing the wheels any time soon, the tires are a possibility. I would like a little bump in power maybe like 5-15hp.

What about the weapon r cold airbox an intake?

http://www.weapon-r.com/airbox.html

Anyone using one of these?

Looks like CAI might be the way to go. It looks AEM is what everyone is using. Is there one that is easier to install?

I would still like to know the hp difference between ram air and CAI.

Thanks,

Mark

There isn't much difference in hp wise between the Short Ram and Cold-Air. The Cold-Air just sounds a lot cooler, but if any hp...they are close if not the same. Spend the extra cash to get a Cold-Air, whether it be from Injen or AEM.
