Need advice - How far can you drive after the tranny craps out?
Hi Ladies and Gents,
The tranny on my 02TLS finally kicked the bucket last night on the way home from work. My wife and I were carpolling and she mentioned that the tranny started to slip badly when she was on the way to pick me up. Once I took over the driver seat, I noticed the transmission always slipped on the 2nd and 3rd gears. Once I passed 3rd, everything drove normally... well .... untill we almost home when the Check Engine and VSA started to come up and the "D" led started to blink. Once that happened, the tranny will now go down to the 1st gear. I knew it because of the RPM. Going from a stop at the light was a nightmare.
Anyway, we finally made it home safe and I am going to call the dealer today to drop off my car.
My question is, since the closest dealer is about 20 miles away from my home, can I still drive the car and hope the tranny will still hold for 20 miles? AAA will only tow the car on the first 10 miles and I have to pay for the rest. ARGH ! :silvermad
Will you get a loaner from dealer on transmission warranty fix?
Please advice.
Thanks.

Acura will remburse you for the towing, if you dont' want to drive the car to the dealer. I drove my TL the dealer in sport shift mode when the tranny crapped out on me, but I have Acura Dealer only 3 miles from where I live. So, it was a short drive.

Better yet, call the dealership and they will tow it for you. They sent out a flatbed 90 miles out to pick up my car and back to the dealership; cost them 300 dollars. But this wasn't for the transmission.
You can technically drive it as far and long as you want, but you're going to keep the engine boiling in 2nd gear because it won't go into 3rd.
And yes, you will get a loaner vehicle.
Good luck.

I think I drove my TL about 20 miles with a destroyed transmission, I didn't know what was going at first and had to take my friend home, by the time i got to about 15 miles it wouldn't go out of 1st-2nd gear.
