I wonder how many would make the decision to simply take the headlight if the same privacy and security were there as it is with stealing the DVD...

And lets get it straight that i personally never said that either a.) i would copy it b.) i would provide copies c.) purchase a copy. Yes i think they are charging too much for the disc, yes i can disagree with you all i want about actual R&D costs and we can also argue about this until we are blue in the face becuase it's all in good discussion however dont go assuming what peoples actions will be. That's ultimately up for them to decide, not you to assume.

Also, your comparision to stealing the guys headlights down the street is not applicable to this scenario. Pirating computer software or hollywood DVD's would be a better compairsion.

My occupation is irrelevant. I understand R&D and Supply/Demand. R&D costs also vary heavily based on your product. I have no doubt that each disk reflects a % of R&D tied into the price, but i still think the profit on these is pretty high. Just my again.

Stealing is stealing, only the item stolen and the rationalization changes.

Guess I took the following quote wrong.

You're right on that but you know what, it makes no difference on how you or I view the matter because ultimately, people are going to do what they want anyway regardless of our opinions right?

True, but this forum doesn't have to be the place where buyer and seller connect. I've already received PMs from members asking if I want to buy a bootleg copy.

I agree that the thread should not be closed on the differing views... I actually enjoy participating on discussions involving differing views... It's always great to hear other opinions...

However, if you read the posts on page 2 of this thread, there were quite a few posts that started to cross the line on illegal bartering and copying... These are the messages that I am surprised did not result in the thread lock...

Canadian coverage

For those of you that have 2.20, what is the code to enable the canadian map edition. I know the new TL have this option.

Does the 2.20 for the older TL's have the same option?

I don't think this is an option for the 2nd gen TL Navi's. Atleast that's what it says on the acuranavi site under the FAQ.

6. Can my navigation system provide coverage for Mexico or Canada?

Coverage for Mexico and Canada is not provided by the system.

Hey I just got my copy of 2.20 from Acura just ahead of them running out.

If anyone wants me to check anything out about it or answer any questions shoot.

Note about the posting above and the FAQ saying Canada is not possible with our systems...the FAQ has many errors in it. For example that it's not possible for the 99 TL disk based system to upgrade to DVD. It could be there, perhaps we can figure it out with this disc.

I probably won't keep this disc so if anyone was hot for this version and are waiting on www.acuranavi.com I'd sell it at my cost. I just picked up my Honda Ridgeline Navi yesterday...wow the features that navi has. It has a freakin on screen calculator.

Regards all, Paul Mooney

Well that was short lived. An owner just snatched up my 2.20 disc.

I just got my Navi 2.20 disk, I noticed when I checked the version number on the Acura Navi system it said version 2.11.25. Anyone know why it doesn’t say version 2.20? The disk has 2.20 written on it. I’m updating from 2.05.

I also received my disk yesterday. I upgraded from 2.03 and the Navi said 2.11.25, but the disk said 2.20.

If you look at http://www.angelfire.com/ga4/99_acura_tl_navi/ ... you'll noticed 2.11 is 2.11.25 -- so, maybe this is an insignificant update from 2.11 to 2.20.

For me, however, this adds about 4 million routes!

i dont think it supposed to be correct. I believe Alpine screwed up and released it too early before QC it. We all know it supposed to say 2.20, mine's also says 02.11.25.

I just got off the phoen with Alpine and the lady told me that all the NAV versions are like that, the version on the disc doesnt correspond with what is on the screen. Whether this is true or not I'm not sure, I'll have to run in the car and go check this out.

I just checked the website and they state that there is a verion 3.40 available for my 04 TL. I called the number and verified that this is the right version being offered. The person on the phone stated this is the version for the voice activated systems? Anyone else see this or have the 3.40 version? I'm wondering if there are major differences or not. I read all about 2.20 and went out to check and it nows says 3.40. WTF Alpine?

The second generation dvds are 2.20 version. third generations are 3.40 version. So if you have a 04 TL, it will be a 3.40 version.

If you're going to slam acuranavi, you should get your facts straight first.

2.20 is the latest version for non-voice activated NAVIs.
3.40 is the latest version for voice activated NAVIs.

How big is the change. I have 2.03 too and i feel guilty forking over 185 for a disc, but if it is worth it , its no problem. I live in a small town (bloomington, IN) and am wondering how good the map is for a small town like that.

The difference is huge..! I felt the same way you did, but living in the DC-metro area, it was absolutely worth it with all of the changes going on here.

PM me if you have any more questions.

I think, there is a copy protection on those. I borrowed my friend's 3.40, its a no go. But I haven't spent much time playing with it. He need it back right away.

Sorry for bringing back an old thread. Does anybody know the difference between the older version (2.05 or less) and 2.20?

Here is the list I collected through search:
- The zoom bar is orange instead of yellow
- Deeper, more mature voice
- Update(Add) verified roads, and add unverified roads (light gray color)
- Moving the cursor around is smoother.
- Update (Add) POIs

Anything else I miss?????

In 2.20, is there more options in "Show icon on map" beside gas station, ATM & a specific type of restaurant?

Yes, Pilot uses the same Navi as the 2nd Gen TL/CL.
So you can use the disc from the pilot.

You are correct. And as far as I know, I haven't played with it much, there aren't any new "show icon on map" besides the ones you listed. I just got my disc last week.

Arrow Howdy : )

I would like a backup copy of 3.40 (black disk) for my Navi if someone can make them... I have paypal baby!

I would also like to know what media is good for dvd reader in the trunk? My last copy would usually read, but sometimes I would get the unformatted error annoying when I have to restart my car because of it

Thanks In Advance,
