I have yet to figure out how to get the ISO to work. I have been toying with it both on my PC and Mac, yet my DVD in the car keeps giving me mapping errors when I used the burned CD. I know it can be done, just haven't mastered the art .. Would be nice to be using a copy, since my first CD (2.03) decided to become unreadable, thus I had to get a new one! ARG!

Which version are you trying to backup? I'm using a backup as well, and it works fine, but it is the one before 2.11c, so its just a single layer disc. Try burning it to a +R disc, and if your burner supports it set the booktype to DVD-ROM.

I just purchased a 99 RL with the navigation system installed. I would like to know how do I find out what version do I have loaded? The car didnt come with a disc. I have a toyota Prius and the navigation system in that is way more detailed than the RL? I also need to know any info you experienced guys can pass on to me as a new RL owner.

Thank's

Does your RL have the DVD version or the hard drive system?

I agree.

Backups work great, occasionally you'll get the media is not there. But restarting the system is fine. I've helped out a couple of Tlers already.

I ordered the DVD online. The order confirmation page that came up, as well as the email I received, indicated Version 2.11c!

I called the toll free number and they reported;

(1) They didn't know why the 'receipt' indicated 2.11c.
(2) They always ship the latest version
(3) They will call me back when they have an explanation.

We'll see.

MikePA,

Did they ever call you back to confirm the shipment of the 2.20 version disc?

Nope, they never called back and didn't send an email. I got an email late Friday indicating they shipped a DVD, no indication of Version. I selected 2 day shipping, so I should know Tuesday,

Navi upgrade

I just installed the update. I can't really tell the difference other than it knows my house is on a street, not in the middle of a field. But same look, same voice. I'm hoping the restaurant searches are a little easier.

My 2.11c is up for auction. I'm surprised how high they're selling for, but i'm sure that will change as upgraders start selling.

Search 7957661759 on ebay if interested.

Yeah, i see that. "Due to high demand, the 04 Fall Update DVD (version 2.20) is temporarily unavailable until mid March. We apologize for the inconvenience. "

This is crap! Maybe it's such a high demand because you morons always delay the release of it. Anyway, who all in here was able to get their dirty little hands on the 2.20 disc before alpine put the (yet again) kabash on ordering?

no shit and with charging $185/disk, I would have a warehouse full to make hella money! - BTW everyone, burned copies work just fine...so find someone with a dual layer burner, and throw up the to Alpine...or whoever is making 1 copy at a time. And I think I pretty well got a good hold of real supply and demand after my first Business class my Sophomore year

So, anyone want to burn some copies, or let me borrow the disk

The $185/disc is not what is cost to make a disc. Its the R&D cost that needs to be recovered on the product. Granted its expensive but if each disc cost $20 they would be out of business.

I agree that Alpine greatly underestimated the demand, but I do not agree with burning copies of the DVD. Stealing is stealing whether someone uses a crowbar to jack a set of headlights or a DVD burner to create copies of the NAVI disk.

R&D my a$$. The company has not added any new significant features from the last release, just "more POI" and map detail. I can get that from going to the gas station down the street and buying the latest map they have for $10.

I would definately agree that the cost is reasonable IF they actually re-engineered something on the product or added new features. It all depends on how much you value added content. I think that the price is a bit steep. To each his own.

They are also already saying there's a shortage because of demand...so you think they are going to have a problem making up the R&D costs?...i highly doubt it for what they are charging.

Is this the first time?

Think about it. If there was not enough copies of Windows in the world...you think people would just wait around until Microsoft got their ducks in a row? Doubt it.

Adding or verifying if info is current still requires man hours. What you think they have, worker monkeys that they feed bananas to get the job done. You have any idea how expensive R&D is??? Just curious what your occupation is. My friends are or were in R&D and we know how much R&D can cost a company.

Agreed...stealing is stealing... If you don't like the value to cost, then you don' t have to buy it... But making a copy of it when you really do want it just increases the costs for those who want to buy it legitimately...

I bet the $185 cost factors in how many potential customers they have...a projection of who will want the upgrade...and a projection of how many will simply steal it... Every year the volume goes down, our price will go up...and the more everyone will complain...

As you've said, I am sure there are those talking about whether it makes sense to buy headlights legitimately, or take the guy who always parks outside down the street every night... Hmmm...which option will be cheaper? Which option would just be wrong?

The big difference here is that the DVD allows people to steal in private... You don't have to worry about a police officer driving up as you are taking the last screw out of the headlight bracket... I wonder how many would make the decision to simply take the headlight if the same privacy and security were there as it is with stealing the DVD...

I am actually surprised that this thread hasn't been closed yet... In other forum communities, talk of illegal piracy and duplication has resulted in a lock of the thread...

As others have said, it's just my
