I'm going to merge all the navi update threads into one so we can keep all the info in one place. I will also sticky this to the top of the 2nd generation thread.

Unhappy Why me?

Ok. Thought I might be one of the first to get the disk. Pre-ordered and requested 2nd day delivery. Got my order confirmation from alpine with the UPS tracking number on Tuesday morning (11/18). But UPS still show the status as 'Billing Information Received'... No pick up or check points! Called UPS and confirmed that they do not have the package !!! I just tried to call Alpine, but they don't open until 11:00 eastern time...

Any one else had this happen???

Really Really Stupid Question -- Would this DVD work in an ALPINE NVE-851/852?

The only reason I ask is because it's all made by Alpine, the interface is very similar and they look extremely similar.

Thanks.

I haven't received mine, and I'm not sure if it really shipped...

I got ahold of Alpine. They're checking with the warehouse and are supposed to call me back. Again, anyone else had this happen???

ScotTLTypeS - I'd definitely request a refund of the difference in price between the 'standard' and '2nd day' delivery options since you no got it within 2 days of the ship date.

So I was psyched when I called the 800 number and they said they were shipping.... Then a came here, and of course, am way too late to be first....

But anyway- sounds like no one has actually received their disk yet???

Just loaded it and the gui looks the same as before but has tons more roads. (the boonies don't look so lonesome anymore) Voice has matured somewhat and the joystick action seems more fluid. Many more poi's. Don't have time to check further.

Ordered it Tuesday, got it today.

Good enough for me! I'm all over it.

The voice changed? But I named the one I have now! ("Maxine") I can't let her go now that I've named her!

Thanks for the info.

Just loaded the update into my TL in Albany, New York. Haven't driven anywhere, but WOW--the coverage has increased 1000 fold. My house, which is in a new development, is on there--so is my parents' business and everything else I looked up. Very pleased so far. Haven't heard the new voice yet.

Nick, give me a street in Utica and I'll check. Have driven by but not around in Utica, so I can't judge.

Nick79, Utica NY is all there. Lots of streets showing and many poi's too.
The voice sounds older and less Japanese(?) if that's what it was before. Hope this helps.

It doesn't say rout instead of route does it?
I wish it spoke German.

I just popped the new one in and route calculation is several times faster with the new software. A 1,235 mile trip was calculated in less than 15 seconds. It would have taken a minute or so to calculate that route with 2.04.

Total storage space on version 2.11.15 is
6,691,516,416 bytes

as compared to version 2.04 which is
3,941,257,216 bytes

That's 70% more data!

Now the bad part... Neighborhoods in my area that went up in the last five years are NOT on my map! I'm tempted to send the DVD back because of that!

Here's my question - How do you downgrade this thing? When you put the old DVD back in, you get a wrong DVD error message. You can't even access the maintenance menu to do a forced download. Any ideas on how I could switch back if I wanted to?

I was afraid of that after reading question #10 on the FAQ

Here is question #10:
10) If I don't like the new disc, can I go back to the old one?
No, your previous destinations, optional PINs, and personal address books for user 1, and 2 are unaffected by the update. Some Setup values such as "brightness" or "voice volume" may be reset to factory specifications.

I have now had more time to play with the update, and I am VERY pleased. Coverage in the Albany area and surrounding areas is absolutely complete. An unbelievable improvement over what was there before. Amazing.

The new voice is different. It sounds more distinctive, but may not be as easy to hear as the other because of the tone.

Over all, I am very pleased with the update, even though I was very skeptical.

That answer doesn't make sense. It's the same answer they gave for #9. They didn't address the issue.

Taken from the instruction book:

Note: After installing this update your previous navigation DVD will no longer function...If you wish to revert to your previous version, see your dealer for assistance.

From my initial tests? Yes. Initial route calculation is much faster and map refresh times when moving the mouse seem slightly faster when viewing large areas.

After fully reading the insert that came with it, there is a way to do it. They ask you to consult the dealer and warn you of what settings you will lose when you go back.

I've PM'ed one of our local Forum Acura techs and asked the question. Hopefully he'll respond. I've also called tech support, but they won't be available until tomorrow.

I'm not saying that I want to switch back yet. I just want to know how. I'm nerdy like that!

Installed New DVD Navi Disk!

well after a long time waiting for this updated disk, i was very dissapointed!!
It looks EXACTLY the same as the previous version, the only thing they added to the menu is a option to turn unverified routing on or off, it is a bunch of crap, for example , i live in michigan and they expanded the M5 freeway like a year and a half ago and the new expansion is not on there, i was soo dissapointed, i havent really gotten that in depth into it yet, but i would say they just took the last version and added this unverified crap to it!!

Two thumbs down in my book, and definitly not worth the 202 dollars i payed for it, i got the 2nd day air delivery!!

So Buyer beware , not worth it at all in my book!! your experience may very depending on where you live!!

The Navi DVD is not a normal dc. You need a Dual Layer CD burner to burn it..

steveinathens,
Athens is there all right. Broad, Clayton, College Ave. Wish they had done this sooner.
It even shows dirt roads in Franklin county, if you can believe that.
