Ouch... I'd recommend a body shop. Its gonna cost you like $500+ to fix probably (because they'll want to blend the paint to get the best paint match possible). But with a 2 month old baby you'll want her looking perfect again. I did some nasty damage to my car this past winter, and it costed $750 to fix, but it was well worth fixing because she looked perfect again when I got her back!

It is 1/8" by 1/2". I really got no clue as to what to do... like the entire process to get this fixed. It looks as if it went through 2 layers of something. Will I have to replace each of those layers? What are those layers?

BX, Why not try to touch it up first with a paint stick? Dab some on using the end of a match stick about 3 times letting each coat dry in between. After that and some wax work it may look okay enough to pass. Lord knows that this will happen again and you can't spend $750 each time. I'm curious about that clear film and if anyone has had luck with it.....especially on the edge of the hood where I'm pounded alot. I feel your pain but you may make it 90% better and only you will see the area damaged, besides you could still have it fixed if you aren't satisfied and have lost little. Good Luck!

Yikes, defin something that you wont be able to fix. Take it to a shop and have it fixed asap (before it starts to rust). Most likely they might have to paint the whole panel so there is no noticeable difference in the paint.

I'd do some touch up paint for a temporary fix. Just to avoid the start of surface rust, etc. Maybe 3Ms Rust Avenger. You can go over rust with it, it does some chemical thing and turns black. It's for smaller scratches, but as a temp fix should be ok. Otherwise, it looks like you're down to bare metal. Bodyshop is probably your option.
I think you're talking about xpel. Seems like a long job to do the front of the car. www.xpel.com I was going to do the headlight set as soon as I got a hole in my driverside fog

So some touch up paint to stop it from rusting will be good huh? I just can't pull myself to spend like $500 to fix it unless it is really something that should be done. I can't see myself spending $500 everytime something like that happens.
The touch up paint for the temporary fix, how temporary? =)

Well, if you're planning on doing a bodyshop visit and paying whatever to get it done right, then I'd just put some touch up paint to last a few days/weeks before you get it to the shop. This would basically just slow down the rust from developing.
If you're not planning on going to the shop set a few hours (maybe a day) aside for this job. Get some primer and touch up. You may need some sandpaper, etc, to help "clean" out that area. I can't tell from the pic, but it looks like it went down to the primer and then down to the metal. So a few layers of primer, a few layers of paint, you might be able to cover it up. check out www.eastwoodco.com. They have some pretty good tools to help out with this. With that situation, I'd be too concerned with the long term effects.
IMO, I'd go for the body shop. At least just to hear a quote.
waiting for NSXNext to chime in here with his wisdom...

There's shop in Queens that does awesome work. My old roommate's cousin had a A4 2.8 Quatro converted into a S4 (motor/tranny swap, suspension upgrade, new paint job, custom interrior, etc). The name of the Shop is Advance Auto Sport www.advanceautosport.com you can see the work they do. Hope that helps, and I'm not sure what he charges, but I know he does good work.
