Is my tranny gone??.....

I've never had a problem with my tranny or shifting ever before, until now. I got into my car and now my D5 all of the sudden is flashing with no warning. Now when I drive my car, it starts in second gear.... where did my first gear go?? It still shifts really smooth throughout the other gears, but now there is a rough shift between park and reverse.... Not covered under warranty anymore so i hope i dont need a new tranny......

Sounds like it's on its way out, definitely head over to the dealer asap.

how far out of warranty are you
Have a read of the Tranny failure thread and read the last few pages about Goodwill warranty
If an 03 out of vin range- we can help
If 120k miles- we can help
Acura is pretty good with customers who ask for help- you just have to know what to say to who

I know my transmission is about to go. I called Acura here in Canada and they told me that the warrenty is over for me. I have a 2000 TL-P with 173,000KMs, my car was bought in 2001 off the lot thats what I was told. So I am pretty much out of luck even with the "good will" service? warrenty I believe is 170,000 KMs or 7 years, in my case I past the 7 year limit since Janurary 2008.

acura canada. I dont think had to comply with the 7/109- it was a usa lawsuit

It NEVER HURTS to go speak in person with the SERVICE MANAGER AT THE DEALER
and ask for some Goodwill assistance

phone people are not the authority in any way- dont let them bother you
We recently had a usa car with salvage title- still owned by original owner after accident- and acura covered him on the trans! So even the `no salvage title` can be negotiated
Whats a year or 2 and a few kms in the great scheme of things
they know these trans goes- you have about 100k miles- thats about right for failure

Tell the manager how much you love the car- are very acura loyal, and belong to the largest internet gathering of acura owners
They may be able to do a 50/50 split on cost with you, which about matches the price of local rebuilder shops 2500$
You have to tell them what you want- then they can work towards making you happy

Its not worth getting a junkyard trans- total unknown and its been sitting for who knows how long,, what condition are the clutches in etc

When I drive I feel it shifting hard and slipping not smooth at all. If I was to go to Acura and tell them my tranny is going to die soon but hasnt yet. What will they do to determine if it is or not? and will they consider a good will if its not dead yet?

The other problem is the SRS light. It would come on and I would reset it soon after. It would come back on in a week or so later and this happened a few times. Do you think this is the recall problem and not something else?

yep- the salvage title story- voids trans warranty

You can talk with the service manager- not the service WRITER who gets commission,,,
and see if they will price match aamco on rebuilt price
they may go 2500-2800 for you
Times are tough all over- some profit is better than none!!
If the car is otherwise excellent- depending on why it was salvage affects keeping it or parting out,,,the engine may hold value to a honda racer

Its true the trans gives little to no real warning unless you watch for it every day and know what it feels like
Sorry yours wasnt covered
