my TL-S vs VW Bora 1.8T
I was driving home today when this VW Jetta quickly pulls up behind me, driving pretty aggressively. Then he starts putting moves on me, like I am in his way. So I figure the dude does not know what TL-S stands for.
I try to teach him a lesson in TL-S alphabet, then traffic gets heavier. I stay in left lane he goes into middle lanes hoping that traffic there will be less congested. Finally he gets a break and moves up. Then I get a break and move up. We are side by side and he's got a silly grin on his face.
Eventually he gets another break, a long one, and starts accelerating pretty fast. I follow him through the hole, but amazingly he is steadily pulling away. Not blowing my doors off, but still getting away from me.
Then he has to slow down and I pull up behind him. He's got a European version of Jetta, the Bora 1.8T
As far as I know it is still a Jetta and is not supposed to be anything special.
So my question of the day: does my TL-S suck? or is my tranny starting to go south again?

not sure about the euro spec 1.8t but i do know that with just a chip and exhaust my wifes 1.8t passat is easily 220hp. couple grand on a turbo would spell serious trouble i'd think. im just guessing but a lot lighter as well ?

My best guess is that he has the Mexican made North American Jetta and simply rebadged it as a "Bora"....Jettas name back in Europe as you have stated. As for his power, not to familiar with current VeeDubs but since it is a "turbo" it's probably easy to increase the boost to make more HP be it by a chip, etc.
Thats the beauty of turbo's...turn up the boost.
Don't worry, I like our cars a whole lot better then a Bora. Would you rather have a Jetta?

If my tranny blows again, I'd rather have my 300M or Grand Prix GTP back. Or G35
I thought that this dude might have a chip, that explains why he had that silly smile on his face. Plus Jetta is smaller and lighter.

You can buy Bora nameplates easily - In Germany that's what they are called, not Jetta's. The 1.8 can easily be modded with a bigger downpipe (7hp), chip(40) and even a bigger turbo to get a really fast car. They weigh 3100 lbs.
