What should I do I get 14mpg in New York City. My car is a 1999tl with 49955 miles.The dealer said that I do not need a tune up. Besides cleaning the air filter/checking tire pressure, what should I do?

Well if you are in the city ALL THE TIME doing stop and go, then I could see that sort of gas mileage especially if you get on it often.

The VTEC V6 sucks gas big time in the city, nothing much you can do with it. It will give you decent highway mileage though. Wonders of modern technology.

My general drive to work is mostly stop and go and I have been getting 16 - 17 mpg. I get MUCH better on the highway. I have a 2000 with 47K and it seems to run fine. I think its just the way the car is. I would like to know what the original sticker had on it for milage.

Mine is a '99 and I do believe the sticker was 19-21 city and 26-28 highway...that is really exactly what I get. I usually keep it under VTEC (4000 rpm or so). My best highway was 29 on a trip to Houston with a little north wind behind me

If you are getting less than 16 in the city then you must be gettin on it alot or you need to check your plugs, get some fuel injector cleaner or something else is wrong.

i average 14-16 mpg...and i do mostly local driving, not really city...my car only has 9k miles on it...i guess our cars jsut suck gas when they only see local/city
