Oh and those pictures make me sick. I feel for you bro. If I lived in NY I would do a sting myself, park my friends TL (hahaah not mine though) outside in a hot area, and do a sting op with a bunch of friends. When you see the truck roll up and stop in front of your car just roll deep and whup ass

i see more and more of TLs without headlights. Its sad, but I believe if you can afford a TL, you should, you must, have a garage for it.

After my last car got stolen on ocean pkwy, I learned not to park a car on the street (or in bad areas), especially when it takes less than 30 seconds to pop out the headlights from a TL.

I dislike Acura for placing the boxes right behind the headlights, I wish they were much deeper inside under the hood.
Plus it's also obvious where all those headlights go, the HID that is, to all the crappy cars we see on the streets with HID in them.

this sux.

Damn, we got hit on the same night. Those fools only took out one. I was out in Queens though.

Yo, BBZ. OMG! They tore your whole bumper and everything. I feel your pain. I want to cry looking at yours. They only bent the fender a little but wasn't able to take everything out. They left the main parts. Freakin AMATEURS. I'm hoping my loud *ss alarm scared them away.

How bout an alarm that triggers special tweeters that are so loud and high pitch it causes deafness if the idiot stays in/near your car.... Or the beloved pager alarm.

Wow..sorry to hear about all 3 incidents Hercules himself couldn't stop me from beating the living sh!t outta some that tried to steal my hids. Then I'd go to work on him People these days..as stated before, garaging it would be the best protection or like Alexxx said, use a car cover. I hope this sh!t doesn't come over here in the Midwest.

I saw a poor guy in a CL the other day downtown Atlanta with one headlamp missing and a bent fender.... I felt so sad for him. Hopefully this will never happen to me, as my insurance said if I get one more claim this year they'll drop my ass like a hot potatoe.

Galfert had the right idea - get the media involved. The next step should be for ebay to reject any ads for headlights with broken mounting tabs.

Anybody got a high level contact within Ebay - or do we get the media to play this angle? Anyone on this forum with contacts in the media or local government???

I honestly think that the level of TL headlights getting stolen isn't as great as the maximas......i see 4 - 5 maximas a week that have had HID's stolen. They actually are performing a recall and are installing the datadot's system and an extra bracket.

They basically insert small dots into the housing of the headlights that form a unique serial number....basically its like getting your windows etched with your vin number. It's not going to prevent theft but if stolen and the person gets caught with them...the lights can be tracked to you. Also the install another bracket that makes the lights harder to steal...along with new bolts.

That's a good idea. Imagine a crackhead with a pic on his Ebay auction with those etchings Think that's enough probable cause for an arrest warrant.

I still have One missing light...waiting for the bodyshop parts to come in b4 they take my car. I HATE looking at it.

I actually called Acura about this and they stated in a very cocky way that they are not going to do anything about it. :wow: Their sales really are NOT affected by this. He basically said there is nothing that can be done and have a nice day..((Click)). Yes, that really angered me.

They really shouldn't act like that cuz I am sooooo NOT crazy about the 2004 Acura TL at all. I will gladly make the switch when it's time!

tjohns - sorry to hear that.... i understand 100% what you are going through bro... just cover up that spot this way you will not see it (just a mental thing i guess). If you have pics post them... i feel your pain.... fix it... make sure they install the lights correctly, no gaps or anything like that.... just double check everything that they do....

Any of you New Yorkers got a heads up on any good shops exclusively for Acura Tls in Brooklyn or Queens that do Body, Performance or Audio work. I need to do a couple mods and I need some Acura Experts in those areas.

Thanks for the info on the dots. As far as another bracket, I think if god forbid someone goes for your lights, an extra bracket could cause whoever it is to screw more of the front end up... Even if now you get more time to get a couple of rounds into their back, still end up with more to repair.. BTW I get my car back tomorrow from this whole mess. WOOOOOOOHOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

With a few rounds in their back, at least they won't be vandalizing anyone else's or your TL again

Man I feel for you guys. We haven't seen any of this in Toronto. We're always behind the NY and West Coast scene so I'm sure it'll start hitting here!
Looks like I should get my garage cleaned out in the Spring so I can get my car in there.

Heres my story. Back in May 2:30 in the morning my car is in its private parking spot in back of my building. I hear loud banging and noise, I jump up and see 2 guys destroying my baby. Called 911, cops stopped the getaway car 2 blocks away arrest 3 suspects find my light assemblies in the car. Felony charges filed on all 3. Goto court this week and find out the DA won't file felony charges and won't entertain the case on the felony charges. only misdeameanors. Why do we have penal laws if they won't file charges. Makes me sick, I'm so pissed. $4800 in damages. New hood, 2 quarter panels and the usual light parts. 4 weeks ago my alarm goes off at 1130 at night and 2 guys trying to get a light out. I chased them off with only $1200 in damages.
According to the DA I am only entitles to my $500 deductable from the 1st case, split 3 ways for 3 defendants. Went to try to sell car to a dealer casue you can't own what you want and they only offered me $18000 on my car that is valued at $26000.
My point with my story is even if they get caught, it's a slap on the wrist and this epidemic will continue. I feel everyones pain who has had to endure this mess.

I agree it's a pointless system. Sounds like a lazy DA who doesn't want to deal with the time to prosecute a felony conviction. I seriously doubt the thugs had a clean record. He probably made a deal with them... DAs really only care to win.

Yeah and it sucks to be in a state where they won't let you own a gun [or at least make it horribly difficult].

In Texas you have the right to defend your property.

Judging by the posters' locations, this seems to be mostly a New York/Jersey problem. Has anyone here outside of those areas been hit?

I think there was someone hit not too long ago in Florida, or one of the southern states. I said it before and I'll say it again...we have to do a sting operation.
