He said that it's 3750 if you live in a "bad climate'....like arizona or seattle, doesn't seem too much different from Delaware
Any thoughts?

That's what I think too - 3-4K is best.
You see, this dealer's sales pitch involves free oil changes, but this dealer is just trying to be cheap and not offer free oil change every 3000, so they say every 7500.

With all of my other cars I've changed my oil every 3,000 miles or once a month with ever came 1st. I've never had any type of engine trouble following that pattern. Rememberit's always better to change it more frequently rather than less frequently.

My father had 2 Legends in the 90s (a 90 and a 94, still has the 94) and drove a total of about 450,000 miles between the two. Those cars were lucky if the saw new oil at 7500 or even 10000. The only things that ever went wrong with either -- 1) dying battery at about 180000 on the 90 caused the computer to fail thus shutting down everything on the car 2) After the timing belt was replaced for the first time at 150000 miles on the 94, it broke due to improper installation 3) Power ant. on the 94 doesn't always come up all the way. I don't know if Acura builds them like they used to, but damn that's amazing. Anyway, I change my oil about every 5000 - 7500 miles. I figure the engineers who designed these cars and give input on service intervals know these cars better than anyone. On top of the that, the non-engineers/marketing types who also give input on the service intervals don't want to be giving away any more free warranty work than they half to. Also, if they don't recommend changing the oil at a conservative interval and all of the sudden Acura's are breaking down everywhere, there goes the reputation for build quality. Am I making sense? Also, the ones who really push oil changes every 3000 are the ones who have the most to gain -- the oil companies and those who change oil. These companies are the same ones who in their commercials say their oils are "tougher", "longer lasting", "more resistant to breaking down under the harsh conditions inside your engine", etc, etc. But then they say change your oil every 3000 miles. Sure, it's better, but necessary, probably not. Ok, now I'm outta breath.

please ignore any typo's in my previous post -- it's late and I can't pull myself away from this damn web-site. And "have to" and "half to" pretty much sound the same anyway, even if they don't look the same.

doggdoc, Let me guess. Castle Acura?
Actually, the first 7500 mile change is important for the proper breakin fluids to work. There after, one should consider driving environment. If your sitting out there on 95 every day for stop and go commute, you should consider a shorter interval. Otherwise 7500 should be suffice. I generally change between 5000 and 7500 but use pure synthetic oil. It used to be advertised as good for 25,000 miles, but filter should be changed more often. Its about four times the price of regular oil; however, adding about $20 to the price of an oil change. But with ~30K into a car, its cheap insurance.

yeah bombs, castle acura is using the free o/c pitch, but I didn't buy there, but I hope the svc. dpt. won't notice.
I'll probably change mine more frequently than every 5-7500. I've never usually gone over 5000 in my old Legend (G2), and it held up well (188K and as fast and quiet as when I first bought it - from Castle Acura). Just sold it to someone in Harlem, NYC.
I try to avoid the I-95 parking lot, especially during the break-in period, so I stick to the valley roads - alota curves, and the car makes me happy I chose it because it's fun to drive on these roads.

Not a Blowhole
3000 miles on quality mineral oil is easy - 5k in most situations. Rememeber that the engineer's recommendations leave a lot "on the shelf" for lazy folks and to mitigate/balance warranty claims vs. service expectation costs.
And the oil life monitors on Mercs and Bimmers go way past that 3k, which IMHO is a vestige of a bygone era and perpetuated by those who benefit. Still, 5 q's of mineral oil is relatively cheap insurance so WTF!
I'd say that 3k on Mobil 1 is overkill - but hey, it's your ride.
