My car's making a popping noise... HELP!

Well, during hard accelerations (like pinning the car at a light, for instance) or heavy braking, my car makes a weird popping noise that basically is about the same sound as rocks being thrown onto the ground. I noticed it and my friend noticed it and asked what the hell it was when I was on the highway. Do I need to replace my rotors (the car is 1.5 years old and I haven't replaced them) or would a rotor problem not explain why the car is also making noises during acceleration as well as braking? Has anyone had this problem too in the past? Thanks in advance guys, later...
