I got about 230mpg (370km) per tank. Sometime I got 240 and sometimes 210 per tank. I think that is normal. Maybe I should try to drive like a grand mom. A friend of mine drives like a grand mom and in his Lexus ES300 he got about 350miles per tank mainly highway.....

Same here, I am running my 5th tank of gas.

I got 280 miles when I went on a road trip with it, and the other 3 I got about 230-240 as well.

I remembered the dealer here in Victoria told me about that D4 in town and D5 on highway thing. What difference exactly does it make, can anyone explain to me?

Well, in D4 your tranny will shift between 1st to 4th gears. In D5 it will shift between 1st to 5th gears.

I believe that the car will upshift to 5th gear when speed is above 38 miles/hour or so. Let's say that if you drive above 40 miles/hour constantly in city then just leave it at D5. Cuz you use the 5th gear.

But I think leave it at D4 is not a bad idea after all. because our 4th gear is overdrive already. So leave it at D4 might save you some wear and tear on the tranny. Most people leave it at D5 thought...

I get between 210 and 220 mile to the tank depending on how I drive but I have noticed that it does dip when I run the ac but I never let it get down to where the light comes I usually refill it at 1/4 tank so I guess I could probably get more miles out of it if I let it get to E or when the light came on

I get an abysmal 170-185 miles between refills if I do no highway driving at all (most of my driving is to the train station and running errands). Those unsychronized red lights, stop signs, slow drivers, wrong-lane turners and NYC jaywalkers will kill mileage like nothing else.

I now drive my '94 Integra for most daily driving and the TL is basically a weekend/family trip car. I've had it for 7 months now and it has just rolled past 3700 on the odometer, and 700 of those miles were on a single road trip to New Hampshire. I also get about 175 miles per tank doing all local driving on the Integra, but it's 87 octane gas and only 10-11 gallons.

i usually get around 300 per tank. that's mostly freeway miles at a rate between 75-85mph. when i did the math last time, that was around 23 or 24 mpg.

Ghost,

it sounds like you shift too high. if you want to save gas, shift to high gears at low rpm ie below 3000. you should also drive in D5 as much as possible even on local streets at 45 mph or higher. the other factor is you may be doing a lot more local driving than most drivers.

BTW. AC does suck about 1-2 mpg depending on your temperature setting.

I get 300 miles per tank on average. Mixed local traffic driving, maybe some highway on a weekend. 220 miles per tank is too low. Even S4 auto gets 250 miles per tank.

How are you metering your gas consumption in order to calculate how many miles you get per tank? Are you just referring to when the yellow low gas light comes on?

One of the easier ways to meter gas consumption fairly accurately is to:
- Always fill your tank when buying gas
- Do not topoff the tank, just let the auto-cutoff on the pump do its thing
- Use the same station so that the auto-cutoff will always occur when the tank is at a particular capacity (may occur earlier or later from station to station)
- Record the number of miles traveled since last fill-up, divide this by the number of gallons you put into the tank, and you know how many miles per gallon you averaged since your last fill-up

To get "miles per tank", or the "range" of the vehicle, multiply the miles per gallon number by the capacity of the tank.

That being said, I'd like to hope that no one is actually getting 240 miles per tank.. i.e. 240 miles out of 17 gallons, or only 14 miles per gallon, unless you are really pounding on your car. I drive my car hard, WOT in first and second gear a few times a day, etc. and still manage 20+ miles per gallon. (10 mile highway trips twice a day, plus a fair amount of local driving)

200-220 in mixed driving is all I get. Have an 01 for 6 months now. I use 93 gas and AC is on about half the time.

Damn, i thought I got bad gas mileage. I get 200 miles to a half tank usually if not more. I dont take my engine to 4000 rpms all the time, thats why your getting such horrible gas mileage. Try to shift below 2500 rpms all the time, and you will notice a great increase.

All -

I'm confused, according to all the magazines, and what not, it says the TL averages 20/29 mpg. How can you be getting 200 miles out of a 17 gallon tank?

I've got an 89 mustang gt 5.0, and I get 250 easily, on a 15 gallon tank, driving that baby as hard as I can . . .

Here is my mileage I've recorded since I bought my car. I've put on a V-AFC, intake, exhaust, and wheels throughout these tanks of gas but it stays pretty steady. All of this driving is city only, very short trips.

NATE, your car looks sick! I like how you did a lot of mods within a short period of time. I wish I had the money to do that. Just wanted to complement your work.

My experience has been that there are between 3 and 4 gallons in the tank when the light comes on, so getting 20MPG you should be able to go at least 60 miles without a problem.

Exactly! We only use 3/4 of our tanks. I wish Acura made a 1 gallon reserve instead of 3 to 4!

I believe my fuel light comes on somewhere between 300 & 310 miles on a tank. I normally fill it up around 320 or 330. I live in the dirty south and my auto climate is ALWAYS on. I've had my car 4 months and it just turned 8,000 miles this week and I always use 93 octane in the tank. I don't rev it high and I always drive in D5 until the weekends when I occasionally will drive in sport shift.

I reset my trip meter every time I fill up and my light does not come until around 270-280 miles. I can then go about another 30 miles. So I don't see how you could be hitting low 200's unless you sit in traffic for 2-3 hours every day.

Wow
Maybe I shouldn't be so quick to sell my TBird... it's a 4.6L V8 and with town driving and back and forth to work (lots of UP and DOWN hills) I usually get to 320mi. before the light comes on which means I have 2 gal. left on an 18 gal tank... and I drive leadfooted constantly in town... ya know quick starts, etc. etc.
worse I've ever gotten was 17mpg in the winter, i get less in the winter

I have a decent spread between highway and city driving and I average about 22mpg here in sunny fla with the AC piping 98% of the time. That translates to over 320miles on every fillup and I usually fillup at 14-15 gallons.

I've noticed that if you cruise at 65 for a long stretch, it makes a difference from going at 75. But going above 75, the difference isn't so great, you might as well be doing 85

I also use the SportShift sometimes in the traffic to ease the TL along under 2500 rpm so I dont get the spikes that you'd normally get when you stomp on the gas. Think of it, where are you gonna go when everythings backed up? But say you hit a red light then even stomping works great with the SS cuz you can launch at 2nd and then drop to 4th or 5th by the time you hit 35mph. Doing 'this' would give you a spike above 3000 but at least it wont be a bunch of them that the full auto tends to do. I sometimes worry that I'll fry my tranny with all this playing with it, so in the end, I drive the other half a tank on full auto ^^;; Maybe someone can clue me in on whats bad about my habit if it is?

I am trying not to let the tank get so low.
I have been driving to my sister house twice a week. This is about 70 miles from Washington DC. in Southern Maryland. I get gas down there because its much cheaper.
I filled the tank Saturday it took about 8gals. I came home a 70 mile trip went back today & back home again. This is about 210 miles & the gas needle is a hair below half.
On Saturday I set in traffic for about 15min.
It took me 15min to go a half a mile do to construction. I go about 65 to 72MPH on the highway the A/C is going all the time. When I hit the city it takes me about 20mins to get home. This is about 9miles of the total 70. My car just hit 12,000 miles today after 17months of ownership. I guess I can expext a little bit better gas mileage as miles go up. Like was posted we get gas before our fuel lights come on. We should be abale to go about 80 highway miles after the light comes on.Does anybody remember on the new car sticker they sometimes list the est highway cruising mileage? Was this on our window sticker? I can't remeber I will have to look in the car.
