My Brandy new TL-S !
Well, I finally did it. After much consideration, test driving and price shopping I finally signed the papers last Thursday and drove home in my new ABP TL-S ! What an awesome car!
The interior is absolutely beautiful. First car I've had with leather.
After reading the posts on this board for the last 2 months I knew I had to get an S. Now I feel like an "official member"!
Pics will follow when I can find a good location.
PS: any advice on break in??? I left the dealer with 8 miles on the odometer!

Groove-meister...
Congrats on your new TypeS...
Break-in .. avoid rpms higher than 4000 rpms in the first 500 to 1000 miles... if you're married.. have your wife drive it.. Women (not all) but in my experience tend to be the break-in champions b/c they rarely jump on the accelerator.
Just follow the owner's manual on the break-in .. it's very informative.

Thanks Peter! Yes, I'm married but my wife won't get to drive it that much....this is MY RIDE!!!! When I came home from the dealer and pulled in the driveway she went absolutely bonkers!!!
Now she can't wait till her Malibu lease is up! She wants one too!
Thanks for the advice on the break in.

I stayed below 3,000 RPM for the first 500 miles. But after that, hoo-boy...
8 miles!? Mine only had 3 miles when I picked her up. Interesting. Perhaps someone had taken it for a test drive. My brother and I test drove an Anthracite, then bought a silver one, specifically requesting one with low miles. I'm just picky like that.
Congratulations on the new ride. Have fun with it. I still remember the day I drove mine home. I was all smiles, going really easy on her. Gosh, this was like 5 months ago.
Car buying is fun, ain't it?

I'm not too sure about worrying about the break in period. I know it says it in the owners manual, but when I picked up my car, the dealership sayed there really isn't any more break-in periods for Hondas/Acuras. He said it's in the book to cover their ass, but that it's not neccisary. My GF bought a Civic Ex Coupe from a Honda dealer and was told the same thing.
I tried to go somewhat easy on the car for the first couple hundred miles, but I can't say that I stayed under 4000 rpms.
By the way, Dr. Groove, congrats on the purchase, you KNOW you got the BEST Color!

I've never "broken in" a car in my life. All (15 car in 17 years) have seemed fine. I HAVE given the brakes a little time to break in and certainly, have given upgraded brake packages the break in treatment...
In any case, congrats and welcome!

Congrats and yes you did well in getting the Type-S. I have a friend with a normal TL and he b*tches about how he should have thrown the couple of G's for the S. Plus wouldnt it suck to push a TL-P and have a TL-S pull up next to you?

AudiS4gasm.... No, have no plans at the moment for mods. Maybe CT sways?? Maybe a tint?
Pure Adrenaline... Yeah, car buying is fun but I'm glad it's over. I became obsessed with the research. I really wanted the right car at the right price and I got it!
GreatSmile..... Man I couldn't believe it, head lights being ripped out of our TLs. I will be extra cautious when visiitng the Mall, which is really not one of my favorite places. Closest to me is Monmouth Mall in Monmouth Co. which I don't think has too high a crime rate. At least I don't think so.
Thanks everyone for the "congrats"! It's great to be here.
Pics coming soon!

Welcome to the ABP club. 15 months and 18k miles and still loving my TLS. I'd take it easy on the first 600 miles but that doesn't mean drive it like a granny. Just don't WOT.
I got pulled over the second day I had the car....only got a warning though.

When I first got my TL-S two months ago I did notice that it just didn't have the umpff that the tester did. I drove sanely till it hit about 700mi. Then it was a totally different car. All the power and torque was there at my beconing. No waiting for turbo's to spool up or superchargers to suck down the gas. Just this past weekend I made some unknowing girl in a Honda S2000 look pretty silly (she probably didn't know how to drive it) while hitting the rev limiter for the first time.
It is a fun car indeed...

Good move, Groove!
You will LOVE the TLS over the TL-P. When I went shopping, it was a no brainer for the extra $2K. If I was going to settle on the TL-P, then I probably would have just gotten an Accord for even less. (No offense to TLP owners on the board... to each his own)
As far as break in goes... BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY!!! It's tough, but the miles will go fast. Easy on the throttle and EASY on the brakes for the first 1K miles.
As far as the FIRST oil change goes... there has been a lot of debate on that subject. The manual says to wait until the first recommended oil change of 7,500 miles to change out the break-in oil. As for myself, I have always dumped the break-in oil at 1K miles on my other new cars. On the TLS, I compromised and performed the first oil change at 3K miles. In my opinion, unless you are a total ecology-freak, 7,500 miles is just too long for any oil change. I now use Mobil 1 supersyn 5-w-30 (as do many members here) and change it at 5K mile intervals.
I have a 2002 ABP with 17K miles and so far NO TROUBLES OF ANY KIND. The tranny issue is disconcerting, but I do have a 100K warranty issued now.... so that does help the paranoia a bit.
The engine is rock solid and smooth with a gutsy VTEC growl. Just wait and pay your dues while varying your speed without flooring it, until the break-in period is over. Avoid prolonged drivng or cruising at one particular RPM. This will keep the rings from permanently seating into a particular RPM where the engine does not feel as smooth at other speeds.
I have enjoyed the car immensely. It is a PERFECT road car, if you can keep to the speed limit. 80mph will feel like 60mph in any other car. And 100 feels like 80. That has been my only happy complaint with the car... I can't hold it down on the highway! I still look back at my ABP baby EVERYTIME I walk away from it!
ENJOY! But do try to take it easy the first 600-1K miles.
WELCOME ABOARD! You will find tons of good advice and good friends on this forum!

Thanks Southbound, I thought I was the only one with this habit; looking back at your car as you walk away! I'm in good company then!!!
I'm still amazed at the sharp design of this classy sedan, and of course the color. What a great color! I just got done stripping off the wax the dealer put on and doing a serious 2 step application of BlackFire. What an amazing difference! All the more reason to turn around and look at it!
So far I've been good with the break-in. One thing that will be new for me is putting in Premium gas. I haven't done that since my 442. Yup, I'm an oldie but goodie! That was a monster ride!
Thanks for the advice.
