murdered out... (DIY FOGS)
ok well some of you know that one of my fogs blew up over the winter.
I got replacement lenses and figured i'd try something different.
At least it was a learning experience, and I can let you guys learn from my mistakes.
This was my first try. I didn't know how much glue to put, i think i overdid it a bit Lesson, just put a VERY little around, you can go back after and use caulk to patch up any areas that aren't sealed.
My second try, I think i got the hang of it.
Lemme know what you think.
I'll post some daytime pics so you get a better idea. The messed up housing doesn't show that much.

I'm hoping there is still a decent light output. I used high gloss black and I do have HID fogs.
My ballasts blew up so I put the incandescent bulb in for now/the photo.
thanks for the comments.

I did remove the circle things too, and like i said, I'm hoping to be putting a fair amount of light down when the HIDs go back in.

^ Murdered out means blacked out.
I think it would've been more practical to black out the portion of the chrome that doesn't get lit (where it looks like there's 3 or 4 steps)

Thanks all who have commented, good or bad.
We rarely get fog here, perhaps 2 times a year. Even so I'm waiting to see what my HID fogs will do.
After seeing these photos I'm contemplating painting the brushed steel plate black as well. As always feedback is appreciated.
ps. for my neighbours down south, my daytime running lights are on.

It actually looks nice. It gives shape to the lower front end. if it were blacked out, you cant really tell what's going on on the lower half of the front bumper, especially cuz it's already nbp

thanks again,
I did put the lens back on, they are brad new Lexan lenses. That's why they are so clear.
I'm going to wait to see what the light output is with the HIDs, if it sucks i'll get a new pair of fog housings, perhaps the bezel would still look good painted black...hummmm

The DRLs look sick.
What if you used a smoke film instead of painting it? I think the light output would be better if it doesn't improve after you get the HIDs.
Either way looks nice.

I'm a thrill seeker in my
I think it looks great without the bezels painted black. Need to have some kind of contrast otherwise he may as well take out his fogs and put in mesh or something. I think HIDs may make the light brighter but you still won't get any spread or much output. That's simply a guess on my part though.

Something you couldve done is spray tint (like what people use for tinting their tail/head lights) on the chrome inside the housing... It would've made it darker while still reflecting some light!

Nice mod. A little different -- perhaps not too pragmatic if it does fog but like you said ... 2 times a year?
I suppose it's no big deal if the fog is not too thick or if you don't need to drive great distances in foggy conditions.

Fog lights aren't a necessity here. They are mostly for aesthetics.

UPDATE
The weather finally cooperated so i was able to snap a couple pics.
They are brighter than OEM for sure. probably not as bright as it could be with a silver housing, but still work great.
ps. I removed the inside part that reduces glare... kinda big mistake. The glare is ridiculous. I can only use my fogs on deserted streets or if there is actually fog. Or i'm pissing people off.

You should leave the steel plates as they are. Since your car is a dark color it looks nice how the plates outline the fog lights, especially in the day with the fog lights off
