kewl. my 99 has 60k miles and no tranny problems yet. Mind u the clock bulb had to be replaced and the pain in removing all the dash to replace the bulb, without scratching the molding. Put me on the list. Tranny problems scare me....(past experiences on my old GTI)

So i have 9 people who are on the list.

i'm out of touch with the other popular honda/import sites... any other good places to advertise our cause?

Should we consider getting Honda accord guys, or are their tranny's okay?

Haha...spyder came over.

Family has a 99 TL w/no tranny probs yet...somewhere around 70k miles.

EDIT: I'm curious...I've heard about the problems on them. Those who had them, how do you drive the car? I'm just trying to find common ground amongst the bad trannies.

I have a 99 with 63K.
Could some of you describe your transmission problems more in detail?

Mine shifts really slowly and harshly in the mornings. I'm not sure if its normal due to the cold temp or if its a real problem that i should be aware of.

no tranny trouble

I hate to say so, guys, but maybe the '99 trannies are good.

CR owners report few problems. It looks like most of the replies to this request also report no problems (even though I suspect members of this forum drive a lot harder than the average TL owner).

Of course, my tranny may go out next week, but like most of you guys, I'm at 68K miles and happier than a dead pig in the sunshine.

I am a tech for acura and for the most part have extended the warr. on tl and cl trannies to 100 k miles. You all should have gotten notices regarding this. I know that I got one regarding this for my 03 TLS.

My 2002 TL-P with only 25k on it already had a tranny failure today. Straight up driving on the freeway, gear drops from 5th to 2nd, I thought I was gonna die. First the Michelin blows out the sidewall from the inside out after 3k miles, now this. And the brakes have warped twice already, what is the f-ing deal!?! COUNT ME IN!

Should I replace just the two front rotors or replace all four rotors?

Unhappy Got me scared now!

I was happy with my TL until I started reading some posts tonight. I have a 99 TL with almost 80K on it and no problems. Of course I bought it used at 59K so I have no idea if it has ever been replaced. I am really worried after reading about everyone's trouble. The warranty that I bought is up at 83K miles. Should I look to buy an extended warranty?

I'm in on the petition list. Get them to fixe it the way they should!!!!

tl511, you should be fine. Although a few '99's have had to have a new tranny, that appears to be more of the exception than the rule.

There has been NO established pattern of tranny problems with 99's the way there is on the later models. I have a 99 with over 80K miles now and haven't had a lick of trouble.

Now I did own a 91 TL and had it's tranny replaced at 21K, but the 99's do NOT have a documentable problem. This thread was more because we felt left out by Acura.

I was #1013 to sign http://www.petitiononline.com/acura/
I have a '99 TL, with 53k miles. I bought the car certified pre-owned at 38k miles almost a year ago (from Springfield Acura), with a warranty that is good until 62k miles. I have not had my tranny replaced (at least that I know about) yet...

A couple points:

1. As soon as I first started driving it (and before I was reading the posts on this website, or even heard about the "sticky" problem), I brought my car back to the dealer and said that the shifting sometimes lagged. Most notably, when driving in automatic (with or without the sportshifter thing), slowing down to a stop from 3rd or 4th gear, the car hesitates getting into 2nd or even 1st gear almost until the car is completely stopped. This gives a strange "lunging" affect, like a jerky motion. When driving it for the mechanic, trying to replicate it, I couldn't. But at least I have in their records that there was a problem. So I will probably bring the car back before the end of my warranty, and show them the problem again. I will also inquire about extending my warranty.

2. The scariest experience I had, and this has happened only once so far, is I was driving in automatic (not using sport shifter), and the f-ing car wouldn't upshift past 2nd gear until high RPMs. I definitely felt a strange lunge then!

3. And at 15-20 mph, why is the car still is 4th gear! Shouldn't it shift down by then, to at least 3rd.

4. Has anyone noticed a sort of upshifting memory that the car has? Normally, when driving in automatic, the car shifts up to the next gear around 2500 RPM. When I drive the car with the sport shifter, I usually change gears at a minimum 3000 RPM. After driving in sport shifter for a while, and then I switch back to automatic (if I get a phone call or something), the car seems to have a memory for how I drive. It doesn't upshift until 3000 RPM or more!! It takes a little while (several minutes) for the car to relax and start upshifting at its usual time.

I'm glad I started reading these posts. I thought I was the only one with the sticky shifting. Let me know your thoughts.... I'd especially like to hear other's descriptions of what "sticky shifting" actually means.
