Mod Questions

New TL-S owner. Love the ride.
Just curious, why the black painted y-pipe?
Does the Neuspeed front upper tie bar make a big difference, if so what?
Want to put the CIA does it make the car louder, can you even tell the difference in noise?
What are the most effective and quietest exhaust systems?
Are the headers loud?

I'm a salesman and have clients in the ride alot and I don't want it to be obnoxiously loud but want to hook it up!

y-pipe. When you're behind the TL, CL, Accord (especially with
your headlights on) the exhaust is VERY noticeable and ugly.
Painting it flat black makes it near invisible.

I don't think the tie bar is needed.

CAI is louder, but only when the secondaries open and when vtec
engages. So it's usually only heard under WOT. It whistles and
hisses sometimes.

Stock exhaust rocks.

No difference in header sound.

I'm new, as the next question will tell.
How do you know when v-tec engages, I thought it was the type of engine?

Black Y's make sence.

Headers are great with stock exhaust, huh?

Ya know when your head gets flung back into the headrest. That's it.

You can feel the car pull really hard at thehigh rpms. With Comptech headers, it's just amplified. Your car is still new, so keep it in the low range for a while. It's a lot better for the tranny during the break in period.

Just like Closer said, makes it look pretty from behind, the nasty rusty/salt look is :yack:

On a stock car just the Neuspeed will not make much difference, but combine it with comptech sways and it makes a difference. It tightened up my steering a little, and in my quest to rid the body roll in corners it did help, but not as much as comptech sways.

I haven't installed a CAI yet, but basically you have two types, the short RAM and the full length ones like AEM and injen. The short RAM will give you more noise less performation. The AEM/injen ones will give you better performance gains (because they suck in colder air from low behind the front fender. This also means more likely to suck water up, so look into getting the bypass as well just for the AEM/injen for peace of mind, unless you live in an area where it doesn't rain much If you have a run-in with Bitium he will just tell you to remove the stock resonator and drop in a comptech high-flow filter to achieve the same/better performance than a full length intake like the AEM CAI. I don't want to start a *****ing contest with you Bitium but I wouldn't believe it until I saw Dyno's!

I really don't know much about exhaust, but I know for the Comptech exhaust they sell a quiet tip insert. You can do some searching on this forum I remember reading a few who have installed them.

Hope that helps... But as always I just offer my opinion, run searches there is a lot of info about all those topics here from many peoples' point of view.

Believe it or not I've put 1400 miles already...all those damn trips to the dealership. haha. So i have opened it up, I know what you mean by my head getting flung into the headrest.
I come from a Jeep, so you can only imagine the difference.

When I floor it from a dead stop the car kinda sways slightly left to right. Do the Sway bars eliminate that?
And if I get the sways do I need the tie bar or just a waist of loots ($)?

The sways help reduce the left-to-right body dip when you go into a turn. I don't think they would help the squirrelly feel from a WOT. Need better tires for that

I think the Neuspeed bar is worth it. It is an add-on, not a requirement with sways.

Ever since I first got my car I have hated the amount of body roll in turns, so I have been doing everything I can to reduce it. Neuspeed was just the next step. The comptech sways helped a lot! The Neuspeed did help, just not nearly as much.

That is torque steer. Sways won't help it. You just have to learn how to drive a FWD car with lots of power. Grasp the steering wheel more tightly... keep the nose pointed straight forward.
