Mobile 1 5W-20 Synthetic

I was suprised to see this when I went to Pep Boys intending to buy Mobile 1 5W-30. I had no idea they started producing this.

Anyway, I decided to do 5W-20 synthetic instead of 5W-30 since that's what Acura recommends. Although, it is pretty hot here in Texas

Where in TX are you? Corpus for me and you're damn right it's hot. I have been using 5W-20 and haven't had any problems. Let me know how it goes.

I was running Mobil 1 5w-30 until about a week ago. Just put in the Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5w-30.

Houston. Actually it rained here and brought the temps down a bit.

I need to put the fuel injection cleaner in. Been forgetting to do that. I have 37800 miles on my TL-S.

Do you ever go to any meets?? I take a ride up once in a while to go to them...they're pretty cool. Can't say that I have seen and ABP TL at any of the meets that I have been to but maybe I have just missed you.
Wish it would rain down here. It has been ridiculous lately. I wake up at 7 on Saturdays to wash my car just so I can be done before the sun gets to hot. What a pain in the a$$.

I'd stick with 5w-30 just to be on the safe side

No I seem to miss the meets! I need to stay more on top of that so I can meet fellow TLers. I've yet to make it to a single meet I guess I'll watch around for a meet or do I need to look somewhere specific?

Yeah I might try 5W-30 next time.

I think a few people here fail to understand that Honda/Acura designs have very tight tolerances, and that a thinner oil may not be a bad thing.

I've seen MANY UOAs of 20wts in these Honda V6 engines and they results in very low wear.

In fact 20wts are more shear stable than 30wts because of the lesser range.

Again, thicker is not necessarily better, it is stable viscosity that is the key.

Also, living in a hotter climate does not justify the use of a thicker oil. Although oils will thin out if they are exposed to very high temperatures (racing), in normal driving the oil temperatures will not vary significantly once the oil is warmed up in a modern cooling system.

They switched in 02.

The 01 CL-S recommended 5w-30 while the 02 TL-S, and CL-S recommended 5w-20. Nothing in the engine changed, just oil recommendations.
