Mobil1 v.s Castrol Syntec

Has anyone tried both of them?
Which one is better?

Thanks,
Steven

Neither. I think Amsoil is probably the best out there right now.

Funny... but I have used both of them in the family minivan.. and Mobil always seems to be better.. engine runs quitter and gaz millage is a touch better. Mobile even looks cleaner. So I prefer NOT to use Castrol..
As for my TL I have Royal Purple in it now..and so far, it seems very good.
Amsoil is also very good, but too pricey...

I think the Castrol will look pretty dirty and darker when you change it, but I had used both in other cars.... they seemed the same to me.

Syntec is worth than Castrols GTX brand. Per tests the Syntec seems to break down much faster and not protect as well.

Mobil 1 is much better than Castrol Syntec, but Amsoil is the best ! :P

I hate to be the next owner of your car.

Royal purple is a sludge oil, it just sludges the engine all up. That has been proven many times on different cars. Its not made for 3k oil changes, its made for temporary replacement while you race, then you drain.

supposedly, castrol is not really a syn but a highly refined petrol-based oil...they can get away with calling it a syn because of this highly refined method. this is why mobil 1 switched to the tri-syn because they saw that castrol was getting away with a petrol oil so mobil figured why shouldnt they since costs would be cheaper and profit margins would be higher. but i'm not too sure if they still make the tri-syn since the last time i changed my oil, i used mobil super syn (found it in wal-mart).

What's worng with GTX? I agree, Mobil 1 and Amsoil are #1 and #2 for synthetic stuff, but for regular motor oil, is there something wrong with GTX. I'm using GTX on my other cars and would like to know.

Pricey? I'm going to Amsoil next because the caviar tastes of Redline is much for me. I use to use redline (7.50/qt) now use mobil1 ($5/qt) but will use Amsoil (5.50/qt) for future changes just because I can buy their extended oil filter at the same time.

GTX is the best dino oil you can go with. It actually lasts longer than some synthetics its soo good. Per blackstone lab tests.

Syntec is rated worse than the GTX.

Where are you buying AMSOIL... I just put XL-7500 5W20 on Saturday in my car... paid $40 for the oil CANADIAN !!! (5 bottles)

I don't know where you are getting it for 16 / liter ??? That is WACK... I bought it from the East coast distribution center for Amsoil in Mississauga Ontario.

Check this out...(for all those who think it is tooo $$$$ to use synthetics)
Dealer Oil change CAD $35 (change every 6000 kms)
Dealer change (with my Amsoil) CAD $ 18 (but now its for 12000kms)

Does not take a genius to figure out the MATH...
70 - 58 = $12 in SAVINGS !!!!!!

You don't have to tell me twice.

i think the analness of people on this board is a little too much when it comes to oil. so long as you use a REPUTABLE brand of oil, it doesnt really matter which syn you use, mobil or amsoil or redline...it is not like you are racing your car everyday or even on weekends with speeds in excess of 100 mph. just change your oil at your own personal mile interval and the car will be fine. there are cars on the road that have been around well before the syns were popular and theyre running fine. hell, i owned a 1986 volvo turbo and only put regular pep boys oil in it and the car ran fine. so people, just lighten up on the debates since this oil topic has been overcooked.

Search for a post by Bill99GXE which has done many tests on our cars and others. He has a large spreadsheet that has all the data in it.

Here you go
Amsoil Inc Phone: (905)564-7770
6625 Tomken Road,
Mississauga, ON L5T 2C2

And yes they will ship it out to you... Cause the guy said he ships to the entire NA East coast from here.

Did not try the filter this time... maybe next time... I am monitoring the condiition of the oil and then decided if I need it.

What you should do is see if anyone else in OTTAWA wants in and then you can probably try to be setup as a preffered customer ... check www.amsoil.com

i use gtx chang my oil every month (hard driving&about 4000+- miles a month) gtx usually comes out looking not much different than it went in. i also use it on my 88 prelude with 230k miles on it and it still doesnt burn oil and i raced it (till i crashed)

go gtx for the most part oil is oil not a lot of need to spend alot of money on expensive oil
