Metal clicking noise: Seats?

OK, before everyone gets on my case, I *did* extensive searching through previous posts, but none quite describe the sound that I'm hearing on my 2000 TL.

I'm just about 500 miles from 50k, so I want to get this problem fixed. The best way I can describe the sound is that it sounds like when metal snaps hit each other on a coat. My guess is that it's coming from one of the seats, but it doesn't seem to matter if someone is sitting in the passenger or back seats or not, and I can't tell if it's coming from the back or from the right side of my car. Of course, I've had a friend drive the car while I sit in the back and listen for the sound, but the sound is never constantly there. Note this is not the squeaking sound from the seat belt buckle because I've had that problem and solved it with the WD40.

If anyone has had this problem and solved it, I would great appreciate knowing the answer.

Is it a snapping/cracking sound coming from the seat? If so it might be the clips inside the seat back needing some lubrication. Take the seat back panel off and spray WD40 where the springs clip into their harnesses.

Thanks for the advice. Is it fairly obvious how to get the seat back panel off or is their some kind of trick that I should know about?

Oops! Forgot that article was in the FAQ. I took off the back seat cover and moved the passenger seat up as far as it would go and started driving around. It sounds like the clicking noise is coming from the back seats, so I'll have to jump in the back again and have a friend drive around until I figure out where the sound is coming from. Only 400 miles to 50k, gotta get this solved soon!

If anyone has had this problem, I'd love to hear how you solved it.

I have seen alot of seat bases making a clicking noise by the outer hinge when you push your back on the seat and let off again. It produces one loud click on the way back and then another on the way forward.
