making full power

How long before our motors start to kicking out full potential? About how many miles. Someone told me you have to get so many thousand miles and a first oil change before you all the engines potential. Any comments on the truthfulness of that statement?

I know that when motor trend or car and driver does long term tests, they clock the 0-60 times for when the car was new and when it had 40,000 miles on it. Most of the time, a car is faster with 40,000 miles on it. However, I'm pretty sure that its reached its power peak a lot earlier than that. I did notice that my car was faster at 20,000 miles than it is now with 45000 miles.

Just my 2 cents worth - For full power - over 20K on the motor, synthetic oil, fresh plugs, ambient air under 50 degrees F and of course a clean air filter and you're maxed out pretty well. Any mods will just add to that. The colder the air, the better as we all know it is denser which means more oxygen and therefore more fuel going into the combustion chamber. The engine's ECU takes care of that.
