MAJOR Recall just announced..2002-2003 TLs included
#83
I just bought my car yesterday. Not registered yet with DMV (waiting for DMV to open) and waiting for AAA to open also to get insurance for it.
My 2002 Acura 3.2 TL-S is salvage with 111,250 mileage on it.

I'm sure that it is still covered, unless the airbags deployed in an accident and were already replaced....(I'm assuming thats the reason behind the salvage title?)
Either way, it is still and Acura vehicle thats included in the recall, so take it into the dealership and have them look at it.

You won't be able to tell if the airbag deployed unless you take the steering wheel apart. Just hope they replaced the airbag if it was deployed.
Salvaged titles are issued by the state DMV typically when a vehicle has been bought by the insurance company (after a wreck) or sold to the junk yard. Typical reason - price to fix it is beyond the value of the vehicle as estimated by the insurance company...though there are people that will "fix them up" for resale. Depending on the accident location, in most cases I wouldn't trust the fix. Have a good mechanic inspect it.
Insurance for a salvaged vehicle is typically higher once known by the insurance company (they will find out eventually). Also, salvage titles are no longer covered by any mfr warranty....though I'm not sure about recalls, but would suspect they are covered. You can get a vehicle history report at AutoCheck www.autocheck.com (they have 2X more detailed accident info than c@rf@x and less expensive too)
Resale values on salvaged title cars is lower too...harder to sell.
If you haven't registered your vehicle with the DMV, do so soon, but still follow up with Acura to see if your VIN is covered by the recall.

acura honors RECALLS on salvage title cars, they are govt mandated safety issues
it may honor the special warranty on SRS systems too- being safety related

The only things that are still covered under acura for salvage vehicles are active recalls and the seatbelts.
ODPS/SRS warranty extention is not a recall as is the warranty extention for the tranny. so it would not be covered for salvage cars.
We do get the 2nd gear oil jet kit though. and if I had to guess, this recall is covered for salvage cars too since its an active recall.
I know this cause I drive a salvage myself.

are you registered as the owner with acura care 1-800-382-2238x5
I thought the srs extended warranty does cover salvage cars?- because its a safety issue
Otherwise no warranty coverage on trans w/salvage title- except if you need the oil jet or have a trans failure and never got the kit installed- they will cover you then!

it takes time to update systems, determine affected VINs, need parts made and shipped to dealers etc yada etc
The myacura is often last to know anything
You can get a master list of vins online thru recall.org and see if yours is between the starting and ending numbers- if so--call your dealer and ask when they would like the car

I thought that by law, dealers are required to replace broken seatbelts...My friends seatbelt got jammed and he had to cut it to get his 6 year old cousin out of the car. The dealer wants $360 to replace the seatbelt...Is this right, or do they HAVE to replace it by law? Its a BMW X3.
On another note, I just got off the phone with my service guy at the Acura dealership, and he said that you do not need to wait for the letter. The recalled part has to be ordered by VIN number, so give your dealership a call in advance so they can order the part. He said to give it about 5 business days and you will get a call to bring the car in for the work.

never heard of a federal law on seatbelt lifespan,,thats why they sell aftermarket replacement belts
Keep crud out of the belt retractors and they dont get stuck so often~ kids are murder on car interiors,,,what can I feed to this??? the cd player looked hungry!
We got a special acura extended warranty on parts of the seatbelts and SRS sensors because it interacts with the whole SRS airbag system,,,it had problems so we got extra warranty-
