Is the VIN range that is covered in this recall. That's not much..it's like only 4,485 TL.

you wish. in the PDF, they only replace a part of the airbag. the steering wheel, airbag and airbag cover is not replaced. just the inflator.

Unless, I misread something ,this recall says it only affects 131 cars. How is a mass produced part only affecting 131 cars?? sounds fishy...

Called Customer Care: not in the range for recall, we talked about another recall on the SRS, and asked info about the tranny issue and goodwill coverage as I am about 9K miles outside the range too, maybe they will show some love maybe not, but hey it's worth it to ask? right!!

Its not supposed to. They tend to burn, break noses, blacken eyes and faces.
. . . almost everyone I know that's had one go off say to close your eyes as this stuff burns worse than soap in your eyes.

Unhappy Expanded

DETROIT – Honda Motor Co. is adding more than 378,000 cars to an existing safety recall for air bag inflation problems, the company said Tuesday.

The company will replace the driver's side air bag inflator on the cars because they can deploy with too much pressure, causing the inflator to rupture and injure or kill the driver.

The recall now affects more than 822,000 vehicles, including certain 2001 and 2002 Accord sedans, Civic compacts, Odyssey minivans, CR-V small sport utility vehicles and some 2002 Acura TL sedans.

Honda said it is aware of 12 incidents linked to the problem, with 11 injuries and one death. The company said it is not aware of any problems happening after July 2009.

"However, we have concluded that we cannot be completely certain that the driver's air bag inflator in the vehicles being added to this recall at this time will perform as designed,"
Honda said in a statement.

Honda's announcement comes at a time of increased attention on automotive recalls. Though the problems are unrelated, rival Toyota Motor Corp. in the process of recalling more than 8 million cars and trucks due to faulty gas pedals. On Tuesday, Toyota said it would recall more than 440,000 of its flagship 2010 Prius hybrids due to a braking glitch.

"There is a heightened sensitivity right to anything to do with recalls," said John Mendel, executive vice president of sales for American Honda.

Honda originally announced the recall to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in November of 2008, involving fewer than 4,000 2001 Accords and Civics, the company said. The recall was expanded in July of 2009 to 440,000 vehicles including the 2001 and 2002 Accord and Civic, as well as certain 2002 Acura TL sedans.

Worldwide, Honda has recalled about 514,000 vehicles globally due to the airbag problem. The company said it would make issue a press release at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Tokyo (9 p.m. Tuesday EST) about how many vehicles are affected worldwide by the latest recall expansion.

Company officials said the airbag produces too much pressure that can cause the inflator to rupture, sending metal fragments toward the driver.

Honda says owners should take their vehicles to dealerships as soon as they are notified by the company in writing. Notification will begin during the month of February.

thats where they send recall notices from- whoever is the last person to register with them as the owner,,,may still be on 1st owner after being sold 3 times

that person may throw the notice away--what do they care
and a new owner would never know until the car went to dealer for something and they run the vin for recalls (supposed to every time a car comes in- check for new recalls)
example:
03 owners = how many know about the timing belt pulley recall and how to save on your 105 service with it
this recall^

For Acura.com (under My Acura)

American Honda Motor Co., Inc. Announces Expansion of Driver’s Airbag Inflator Recall

American Honda Motor Co., Inc has expanded a previously announced recall of certain 2001 and 2002 model-year vehicles to replace the driver’s airbag inflator in an additional 378,758 vehicles in the U.S. The driver’s airbag inflators in these vehicles may deploy with too much pressure, which can cause the inflator casing to rupture and could result in injury or fatality.

In total, American Honda is aware of 12 incidents related to this issue as of February 2010. While American Honda was aware of two additional events when the decision to first expand the recall was made in July 2009, we are not aware of any new events that have occurred after July 2009. However, we have concluded that we cannot be completely certain that the driver’s airbag inflator in the vehicles being added to this recall at this time will perform as designed. Therefore, we have decided to add certain 2001 and 2002 Accord, Civic, Odyssey, CR-V, and selected 2002 Acura TL vehicles to this recall.

American Honda is announcing this recall expansion to encourage all owners of these vehicles to take their vehicle to an authorized dealer as soon as they receive notification from American Honda that their vehicle is affected. Notification to customers will start within this month.

As with nearly all Honda and Acura safety recalls, American Honda originally brought this matter to the attention of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and has kept NHTSA apprised of our decision to include additional vehicles in the expanded recall. At this time, there is no action required on the part of the customer. While we know the range of affected vehicles, we are currently processing the specific vehicle identification numbers (VINs) of the expanded group that will receive notifications by mail. We also expect to have more detailed recall information about specific vehicles available at this website beginning at 2:00 p.m. Pacific time on Friday, February 12, 2010.

Owners of these vehicles will be able to determine if their vehicle requires repair by going on-line or calling. Honda owners can go to http://owners.honda.com/recalls or call (800) 999-1009; Acura owners can go to http://owners.acura.com/recalls or call (800) 382-2238. If calling, customers should select menu item 4.

We apologize for any inconvenience or concern that this matter may cause to you or your family. Please rest assured that American Honda will make every effort to notify affected owners as soon as possible.

Just called the 800 number for Acura client services. They told me that they wouldn't have all the VIN numbers updated until the beginning of next week, since the added more vehicles to the recall.

FYI

for the late 02-early 03 timing belt recall- register with acura care- as everyone should be-
this dept sends out recall notes to last known owner
1-800-382-2238 x5 need cars VIN
ask if any open recalls
It was for a misalignment in the pulley that could cause premature wear of the belt.
they replace the belt and pulley- you pay for a water pump and tensioners and there is your 105 !

Checked my VIN last week and wasn't on the recall. Just checked today and I AM on the recall now! Gotta take it in for something else anyway, so I'll just have them do that too.

I just checked MyAcura and now my VIN is included, however it says to wait to receive the letter in the mail before contacting the dealer for an appointment....Whats the reason behind this?
How long do the letters generally take to be received?

they may delay sending the notes until dealers have the parts in stock

Call your dealer and ask when you can make an appointment for- get on the list now if you have to

the notice goes to the last known owners address - last person to register with acura care, so be sure they have yours
