Magnetic Oil Plugs

I'm getting one as an experiment to see how much metal it will pull out of the oil.

What do ya think?

Your tranny oil has a magnet already, so I would assume you're doing this for your engine. But your engine will last much much much longer than your tranny...got the picture?

I've seen magnets that you slip over the oil filter. I thought that was a good idea.

Yeah, these were made by JDM spoon...and there is a bunch of knock-off now. The spoon one is like $30-40 (knock off= $15-25), basically it's a drain bolt with a piece of magnet stuck to the end....it's suppose to attract metal particals as it flows.

I was gonna buy it just to see how it is...but then i thought twice about giving someone $20 for basically nothing. The idea is great and all...but i don't think it's that useful. Because the job of the oil filter is to filter the oil and catch any metal particals or shavings...so what's the point of having this magnet? How strong is the magnet..i always see pictures of the magnet lifting up a tin can..but how does it perform sucking the partical through the oil to the magnet? and when it does attract the metal, how good of a job does it do of keeping it there?

These rare earth magnets are VERY strong... there is no way you can keep these suckers apart with your bare hands.. Once a small metal fragment sticks to one of these.. its on for good...
As these small cylinders will virtually fit on any oil drain plug.
At a cost of less than $2.00(Cdn)... this is an unbeatable option
Get them at http://www.LeeValley.com
I have a magnet standing by for the Tl for the spring oil change...heck might even put one on the tranny plug too.....

Here try this:

There is another section ; large magnets for the rod type as I mentioned above. I found them under SMALL or LARGE rare earth magnets.
