magnaflow exhaust.. resonator length??

sup guys

im gonna buy my exhaust components this week and id like to know what length my resonator should be..

i heard the shorter the louder the exhaust will be.. i dont want a really loud system.. i want a nice deep tone that sounds like a small block V8 nothing that will scream rice

i guess 22" is the way to go.. but will it kill the power?? does a shorter resonator provide more gains

thanks in advance

i dont think you will loose much in the hp gains, since there arent many to be had. pm Bigman he did the conversin. ask what length he used

i asked bigman and he said a 22" resonator was ok.. but i kno kman has a shorter one and id like to know what he thinks too.

bigman also told me not to use a magnaflow resonator cuz it will kill the power cuz it wasnt a resonator but a muffler but on their site it says that it can be used as a resonator or a sporty tone muffler...

Wink i'm keeping an eye on you guys!

the magnaflow resonators can be used as a muffler or a resonator. remember these are designed to dampen the sound. this happens based on how much fill ( brillo ) or glass is in the component. a longer resonator will have more fill in it hence making the tone quieter. a shorter resonator has less fill and will give you a louder tone. magnaflow makes a 10", 12" 18", 22", & 24" resonator. i have a 22" on now, and plan on dropping it down to 18" or 12" depending on the sound. luckily i can experiment at my friends shop by putting different resonators he has in stock on and off to see which one sounds best w/ out perm install. i also don't have a cat converter on! straight down pipe from header to catback! love fl emissions! no cat conv will also affect the tone. i think 18" will kick off a nice deep tone from what i can tell now w/ the 22" on, especially w/ CAI! 12" would probably sound ridiculous

like a high tinny whine (ricey)? (no offense anyone). then a custom resonator is in your future!

Question sweet , what about tip length?

what size ex tips are on the mufflers? i ordered the 7 1/2 " angled/slant tips and then cut them down to 5" and welded them internally to the muffler so they were the exact size as the 3A tips when they were on. they look great w/ the wings west rear lip. they stick out about 1 1/2 " from the car and have the "magnaflow performance " logo etched onto the chrome tip make sure your exhaust tips have the logo etched on them! letter color is like an anthracite on the chrome tip.

I have that setup now, with 4" slant tips, polished stainless and love it. I haven't noticed any loss of power in the low end. I think it is more........ and the sound, ooohhh the sound. The 22" is perfect for me. I posted all about it, with part #'s and $$.

I know you will like it, can't wait to hear your first immpressions.

i paid about 400$US for the parts, but im in canada so maybe the prices are not the same... i got real good prices too... i basically saved all the taxes..

i was quoted at about 180$ for install which is pretty cheap too..

btw i got the 14827 with 4" slanted tip (single wall)

anyone has pic of the magnaflow setup with single wall tips on their TL ?

I'm sure I have one, but I would have to email it you cause I don't want to screw with posting pics to this site or others.

I have one decent side shot, it was getting dark that day. The others shot from behind are too dark to really see much. Mine are the single wall too. I wasn't sure how it would look, but once it was on, the single looks tough.
