Lowerd (chopped) gear shift lever & knob

Here is an easy mod that really looks good. I removed the stock TL-S knob and cut off approximately 3/4" of the shift lever with a pneumatic cut off tool. I then removed the chrome plastic ferrule from the base of the shift knob itself and ground off the plastic retaining fingers. Screwed the shortened knob back onto the also shortened shift lever far enough to just clear the shift plate when the lever is all the way back to first gear. It looks much better than the stock knob and lever which is way too high in the air. I have photos if anyone want see the them....forgot to take a before shot for comparison, but it is an obvious improvement. Just email me.....mustangss@qwest.net

I too thought of the same thing (about the knob being too high up in the air)...but you can also get a replacement MOMO shift knob. When placed properly, the knobs sits millimeters away from the base when you put it in the first gear...plus you have a custom knob.

I got a similar effect by just changing out my stock knob with a momo one. It sits lower, and just feels much better, both the knob itself, and the height it is at. I made the mistake of putting it on too low though and it gouged the shift plate in the D1 position which I ended up changing.

I didnt quite get how you threaded the knob back on the stalk if you cut that part off. Can you explain that part?

I only cut off approximately 1/2" to 3/4" and the shift lever is threaded approximately 1 1/2", so there is plenty of threaded lever remaining to screw on the shortened knob. My intent was to keep the stock knob.
