Long cranking time required to start! Ideas?

My 03 Type-s engine requires between 4-5 seconds of continuous cranking to get her fired up. Runs fine, but every single time she requires this much time to start.

Any ideas?

I do currently have a bit of a vac leak....not sure if it's related or not....

Check Battery! (Have it Tested @ Autozone for Free )
Whats the Conditions of the Spark Plugs?

Vac Leak should not be a Problem if it doesnt Rough Idle after Cranking.

My Car seems to Start with 1-2 Second Crank anytime/weather for Reference..

In my Knowledge starting Problems are ALWAYS Electrical Issues of some Sort (Such as: Battery, Coils, Plugs, Starters). In past Issues with my Cars the Starting Problems where Dialed to BAD/OLD Starters (Specially in my Monte-Carlo SS).

Skirmich,
Thanks for the insight and references.
I did figure out what my issue is. I have the immobilizer removed and I guess it takes a couple seconds after key on for the ECU to compute that. If I wait 3 seconds until the fuel pump stops priming, fires right off every time. I just got this car put together so I'm still learning all her little quirks...

Should I also tell you what color underwear I'm wearing?

Cmon man, the fuel pump turns right on, the engine cranks immediately, who the hell would have thought that the immobilizer would cause a time delay in ignition. I think anyone would have assumed that its either going to fire normally without the immob, or its not going to fire at all. Could you have even pin pointed that as the cause if I had even told you that information??

I understand you point though, many times people do leave out crucial information....but how do they know it's crucial if they dont know it's related??? Just sayin....

Having ALL the info or back ground is always important whether you know if its crucial or not. One would have thought you might have thought to mention removing a device meant to keep the car from starting.

It would be like me giving you directions saying turn right on that one street and keep going till you get to the other.

Oh and I would have probably said that that is your issue as the immobilizer starts reading the key when it gets close so that by time you start cranking the car over it has already received the info telling the ecu to start so there isn't a delay in starting.

My guess is that since he is running the motor in a civic, that is why he had to run it without the immobilizer

You can remove the unit itself from the main board on the ecu, there by disabling it. The car will start just fine without having a key programmed.

Will everything run fine with it disabled? I would like to do this to mine! Is there a write up or diy floating around out there somewhere?

Hmm that's interesting I had no idea you could do that.

You should check with your insurance before doing that I know I get a discount for having it, Not like they would really know anyways unless they really looked into your car

Yep, it will run just fine.

May I ask why you want to remove it?

I would like to remove it because as of right now I only have one key, and would rather remove the immobiloizer instead of paying the dealer 100 bucks to cut and program a new key for me.

I got one from eBay, then went to my local Honda dealer to have them program it. All in all I spent 50 bucks. Many lock smiths will do it as well.

Oh and if you remove the immobilizer your dash will always have the cel warning light on unless you get the rpm systems chip made to replace it.
