Lojack

Hello,

This forum has been an invaluable source of info. This is my first car purchase and all of your stories have made the process relatively painless. I hope to have my TLS this weekend.

Has anyone purchased lojack in Los Angeles? How much is it and was it worth the saving in insurance?

Thanks and I mean it!!!

songoku,

Insurance companies give a discount if you have lojack. I'm trying to get a price for lojak so I know how much the dealer is padding the cost of installation.

I should be joining the TLS family this weekend!!!

Cheers

I think I got about 5% off my insurance rate and it cost about $300 for it to get installed.

I looked into getting Lojack a few months ago when I first purchsed the TLS. In NYC lojack is $595 plus tax. The dealer is not allowed to install it. The dealer calls Lojack and sets up an appointment for them to come into the dealership and install it into your car. Installation is included in the price. I think that price is the same in all states, but I'm not sure. If you don't have the dealer call, you, at a later time can call Lojack directly to set up an appointment. You would either have to come back to the dealer at the set date and time to have it installed or you can go to one of the Lojack locations, which are spread out throughout the nation.

Unfortunately, a lot of theives steal your car to remove certain parts (airbags, dors, seats, et. and then leave the trashed car behind). Most theaves can do this rather quickly, in a few hours. If they steal it overnite, and you locate your car in the morning, it's too late. Lojack is good for those, whose 5% discount for i'd say over three years is over the $600 cost and people that are realy safgarding against theft completely. If these are your objectives, then Lojack is good for you. And that's the whole story.

In MA you can get up to a 30% discount on the comprehensive (theft/vandalism/fire) portion of your insurance bill. The unit can pay for itself in two years. BUT--check with your local law enforcement agencies and make sure they have enough vehicles operating 24/7 that have LoJack tracking units. Some agencies have a lot, while some don't have any at all. If you live in an area with no cruisers outfitted with LoJack receivers (or if you're unfortunate enough to have you car stolen in one) then you're SOL. If LoJack ever ties into the GPS satellites for tracking and recovery, *that* would be something to buy.
