Lexol leather conditioned my seat - found a tear

I've just used the Lexol PH cleaner and Leather Conditioner on my driver's seat and all I can say is wow, the seat never felt so soft and comfy, even when new.

I've also discovered a little tear in the perforated area of the seat bottom (I have a TLS). There's a faint line across a few perf holes like it's been made by a pocketknife, and in some places the tear is deep enough to snag my fingernail going across it. Is this covered under warranty? Can I get a replacement seat bottom? I never carry sharp objects in my rear pockets and I never set objects in the driver's seat, so I know it wasn't me.

Anyway, one thing I've noticed: the TLS leather and vinyl come without any protection from the factory. When you buy your new TLS, the first thing you need to do is to clean and condition all your leather and vinyl before they start drying out. The leather drapes in my driver's door was starting to seriously dry out and crack before I applied Lexol conditioners on it. I'm slowly making my way around the car as I can only spend about 20 minutes each day on it.

I still can't find Lexol Vinylex in any auto parts store in Kansas City. Any hints? I'd hate to go to carecareonline.com and have to pay shipping for one bottle of vinyl conditioner.

Exclamation WARRANTY!

They can definitely replace the seat bottom, and should.

The seats really turn out nice when you use a quality leather conditioner. Just be sure to wipe the seat surfaces with a warm, damp towel to remove salts and acids from persperation :o and buff it dry before you apply the conditioner.

Thank you, I'll bring that up the next time I visit the dealer. I'm getting the seat bottom replaced anyway for clicking.

Yep, I use the Lexol PH cleaner which gets the salts out. I rub it lightly with a sponge applicator until it suds a little, then use a damp cloth to wipe it all off, followed by a dry towel to buff it clean before conditioning.

who do you talk to? Your sales person or the service manager?

FYI, I remember seeing a post on the Acura CL boards from someone that had a detailer tell him that Lexol was NOT recommended for the perforated seats. There were other people that backed that up, but I don't remember anyone answering why. You might want to check on this before using Lexol again on your TLS seats.

I found the Lexol Vinylx at the dealership. It was $11 bucks which is kind of high.

I heard rumors to try detail shops or shops that due custom work for cars. I heard they sell large qty for cheap. Good luck.

Daverman, ask a cobbler for Lexol Vinylex. They can order it for you if they do not stock it.

Daverman, I use 303 Protectant instead of Vinylex. This stuff is great. Has spf protection and goes on with a very nice matte shine, not greasy like most products. It's very highly rated by auto detailers.

Here's their web site:
303 Aerospace Protectant

It's available at most marine supply shops. I got mine at West marine, it's a national chain.

NSXNEXT, do you think the 303 Protectant is more or less shiny than the Vinylex. I'm looking for a protectant that is less shiny. Thanks for the input.

Daverman,

I just noticed my leather is also cracking. Which dealership have you been working with? I'm assuming Superior? Let me know what they do because I need to fight the same fight soon.

Yahh, not good to hear. I'm not working with anyone yet, although I'm expecting a seat base replacement at Jay Wolfe. Maybe we'll go to Superior for the leather problem. I'm not sure about Jay Wolfe's service dept., Superior's seems better to me. At least Superior's service people are more attentive.
