Lexan Fog Lamp UPDATE!!

A lot of us have purchased the Lexan replacement fog lamp lenses. You can buy them on ebay for around $50 bucks. They're a great alternative to the costly Acura glass replacement parts. And it's bulletproof glass!!

These are pictures of my Lexan lenses after a year. After much abuse from flying rocks they are still not cracked. But they are melted and pitted to hell. I'll stick to glass from now on. But...... A local AcuraZine vendor has a great solution to cracked glass lenses. RockBlocker sells a great product that covers the glass lenses with a protective film. Clear, smoked, blue and yellow. It's very inexpensive. I expect that after a year this film will be a bit pitted as well. However, I'll be glad to replace the protective film at the $20.00 price.

My TL is much happier with new fog lights. Oh... Check out those new headlights also.

Please visit RockBlocker in our "Sponsored Sales & Group Buys" area for more info about protecting your TL.

What's your experience with the Lexan lenses?

Thanks for the input, I was about to start a thread about these as I have a cracked (OEM) one and was thinking of lexan replacement.

I too have the same minor melting problem in front of the 9006 bulb. The lexans also scratch alot easier than the OEM glass, as is expected. Although mine doesn't seem to be as bad as yours overall. Maybe different lexan product?

For people who need to replace their cracked glass, protecting the lexans with rockblocker would prevent the pitting and scratching on the lexans, but the issue of melting is still there. I wonder if local glass shops can custom cut these fog lights for less than $50? Hmm...

That would be awesome. But the glass is not flat. It has a curve to it. I was a lucky bastard. I found the OEM fogs on ebay for $120. For both sides. Brand new.

I also found that a company named "DEPO" makes factory replacement light fixtures for out TL's and CL's. I was sceptical about this so I purchased only one light. My passenger side headlamp. The quality and fitment is awesome. There is no visible difference in product between the DEPO headlamp and the Stanley headlamp. I was very impressed.

On that note... You can buy factory replacement DEPO foglamps for the TL as well. Ebay has them for $69.95 each.

Damn...too bad I didn't read this thread sooner. I recently installed my Lexan lenses and frankly, was a PITA to do so. So far, they are clear and unmarred, but I will report if anything pops up.

I replaced both of my fog lens not with "lexan" but something similar which has the same quality. I picked up the plastic sheet from tapplastics.com and did the cutting myself. The lens are working great and I am very happy with them. There is no fading, chip, melt of anything.
The tough part of the installation since the housing has a little bit of curve and you need to bent the lens a little in order to "glue" to the housing.

Ok now I am curious. I read everything about the Lexan lens and I have a question. Do ALL of you have the original bulbs (OEM) installed or any of you change them to other brands and still have the melting problem?

I am asking because I know the OEM Fog light bulbs make the original glass fog assembly get very hot to the point it almost burns if you touch it with lets say your leg (I know this from experience).

With that said, it will melt the Lexan lens. Now, after I changed my bulbs to PIAAs, they stay very cool to the touch no matter how long you have them on.
Maybe some of you may need to replace the bulbs so the fog lights will stay cooler avoiding the melting problem.
My .

I switched the bulbs to the Nokya 3000K Hyper Yellows. Everything's fine right now...but in all fairness, I don't do a lot of night time driving (unfortunately...love the HID, 3000K combo) so I haven't logged a lot of hours on the new lens/bulb combo.

Interesting, I've had my Lexan lenses for a couple years now and have had no issues with them pitting or melting. I have my fog's converted to HID's which I would think would up the odds of mine melting.

I think this is a common experience with HID fog conversion. HID bulbs definately run cooler and would not cause the LEXAN to melt.

Also... I think that us folk with "pitting" tend to drive more than others. I drive about 90 miles a day. The pitting was appearant after about 6 months. I'm much happier with glass.
