Legal vs Illegal tint..your thoughts???
I'm new to Acurazine. I just brought a 2002 Acura TL type-S Dark Emerald Pearl. It's stock everything and I want to change things out little by little. One of the first things I wanted to do was tint the windows. My dilemma is that in the state of MD the legal allowable limit is 35% tint and most of my friends are recommending that I get 20% tint....any thoughts??

can you do the front doors too or just the rears and rear window?
Better not to press the law- its normally a fix it ticket,,remove the tint and get it signed off- but it also goes in the cop computer,, they got you once for tint,,,do it again and piss them off
And you blew 200+$
In general the law is meant to allow officers to see the number, race, and sex of all occupants- and that you are not pulling a gun on them~

For me the darker the sexier
My two front are 30% i believe, and 3 in the back are darker + black interior.
I put my in first few weeks. had car for almost 3 years, only got tickets for tints once..
The "legal" tint usually isn't as good as the darker once.. trying going to a shop and looking at few samples...
At the time i was worried about getting pulled over but now i actually wanna get it darker..
I'm from NYC btw.

My boy told me that the guy at the tint shop suggested that he get 20% (illegal) on the side windows and 35% (legal) on the back windows. Reasoning behind it is that a cop most of the time notices the tint when he is behind you.

Dang in CA we can have as dark as we want in the back i think 50 in the 2 fronts and nothing on the winshield
I have 20% rear and 35% front but I'm going to redo it.
5% rear and keep the front the same. My sister on her 3rd gen has 5% rear 20%front and i think 50% winshield. but thats illegal in CA but not in AZ...

i have 35% all the way around, no complaints with it whatsoever. if you do end up getting it done, do the same all around, i hate when people tint it darker in the rear and lighter up front, it just looks stupid.

I'm not a fan off uneven window tint. It doesn't look right to me. The legal for the front windows is like 35%. You can do whatever you want on the back. I picked between 3 options. 35%, 15%, 5%.
35% all around looked too light. 5% all around looked too dark and would attract too much attention. So, I picked 15% all around. It looks even, but my windshield isn't tinted, so the front windows look a little bit lighter. You can't tell they are lighter, but if you stare at it (like a cop would) you start to notice the front looks a little lighter.
But do what you want, and feel safest with. It's your car, not everyone else's.

i have 20% all around. i think its a bs law, but im sure its so cops can see whos driving. whether we like it or not, not choice... but i say, tint as dark as you want. if you get pulled over for it, pay it off. i will NEVER take the tint off. ive been pulled over multiple times, of course when they see im white, they always let me go. kinda fucked up, but true. within the past couple months i was pulled over. chp told me my car was "screaming to get pulled over"... but he let me go with nothing more than that warning.
and it actually serves a purpose that i would pay for, it keeps glare out of my daughters eyes in the back seat.

just be glad you dont live in Pennsylvania, the law is 70% all around. if you can tell the car has a tint that pretty much means your going to get pulled over.

That is hella true. My sister has a note from my nephews eye doctor that says his eyes cant be in direct sunglight or something and when she gets pulled over she shows them and then she is gone..

I have 5% in the back and 15% in the front. I have never had a problem with cops. With 15% you can still see me threw the front drivers window. I had to get the back windows pretty much dark.. don't want anyone seeing you when there is love in the air.. haha

WindshieldNon-reflective tint is allowed on the top 4 inches of the windshield.
Front Side Windows Must allow more than 70% of light in.
Back Side Windows Any darkness can be used.Rear Window Any darkness can be used.
and this is what you said:
Wait... in CA it's 35% in the rears and nothing in the front.

Depends on what you expect to get out of it. Not everyone tints purely for looks or to lessen inside transparency. 70% still exhibits some UV/infrared rejection capabilities; but of course you wouldn't see it under the naked eye.

The 5% strip at the top of the windshield also allows me to not have to wear sunglasses.
Darker windows do look better in most cases.

Yup. My interior stays significantly cooler (enough, that w/ a front window shade, I can get right into my car on a hot summer day and not get burned.)

I have 20% all around. I used to have 35% in the front and 20% rear. After about a month I hated how it didn't match so I tinted the fronts with 20 also.
I say just go for it, even 20% tint all around.

Here in Illinois you can't have anything on the front driver & passenger windows, and only a strip on the top 6 inches of the front windshield. I was rolling through the hood one day and saw a box Chevy with rims and limo tint all around...even the front windshield! I'm sorry but a car like that is screaming to get pulled over.

Yes, the 5% strip at the top works wonders. A little hard to see traffic lights if you're the first one at the light. Just make sure its not tinted below a certain line (which is marked on the windshield) which may be illegal in your state.

try and stay legal. I have 2 layers of tint all around. 1 layer is 35% and the other is 20%. never got pulled over for it (knock on wood) and 6 inches of the windshield is tinted 20%. It looks bad as hell and i like that fact that no one can see me. SSM 2nd gen TL-S with ebony interior and dark tints is real sexy.
Go dark if you want to......... tint tickets are $200? WTF. in miami its only $80
